WO Ken Brown, CD

    WO Ken Brown joined the Canadian Forces as a reservist in the Communication Reserves in Borden, Ontario in 1983. Remustering to a Reserve Lineman in 1984 he participated in EX Fallex in Germany in 1985. Coming from a military family lineage, he joined the Regular Force in June 1986 and was promptly sent to Battle School serving with the 8th Canadian Hussars in Petawawa Ontario. He remained in 1 troop Airborne Armoured Recce Sqn from 1986 to 1988 and then he rebadged to the Royal Canadian Dragoons. While with the Dragoons, WO Brown departed on his first UN tour to Cyprus in the summer of 1989. Upon his return from Cyprus he was posted to CFB Gagetown with the Training Support School from Nov 1989 to Jan 1991. During the years of force reduction he was lucky to receive a remuster to plumber gas fitter in Jan 1991 and spent 6 months on TQ 3 in Chilliwack BC. His posting to CFB Kingston in 1991 was followed by his JLC course in 1993, TQ5 course at CFB Chilliwack in 1994 and a UN tour to Golan Heights in the fall of 1994. Once again he was posted to CFB Gagetown in 1995 with the Area Construction Troop and another UN tour to the Golan Heights in the fall of 1997.With his promotion to MCpl, Ken was posted to CFB Cold Lake in 2001 as 2 I/C of the plumbing and heating shop. With this posting came yet another UN tour to the Golan Heights in the fall of 2001 as plumbing I/C. While in Cold Lake he completed his 6A course in 2002. This led to a promotion to Sgt and a posting to CFB Gagetown in the Contracts section in 2003. Four years later in 2007 a promotion to WO was received which came with a posting to CFB Petawawa as BCE Contracts 2 I/C. This was followed by an immediate return trip back to Gagetown for his 6B course. The ILQ course in 2008 he successfully completed was his final military course as he has accepted a civilian position at BCE CFB/ASU Petawawa as the Mechanical Team Leader. His last day in a military uniform was the 22nd of October 2008. Ken, his wife Deana, two sons Ken Jr. and Kris have chosen the Pembroke area of Ontario to build a retirement home on 4.5 acres. This is his final destination in what has been a life long and enjoyable cross Canada tour (for the most part).
