After more than 22 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, WO F.R. McCafferty, CD, (00307) is retiring on 21 November 2024. Anecdotes and well wishes may be sent to: knarf_mc@hotmail.com.
Frank joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2002, at the CFB Gagetown recruiting center in Oromocto, NB, as a Plumbing and Heating Technician. Upon completion of Basic Training at CFB Esquimalt, BC and his QL3 at Ackerley Campus (NSCC) in Dartmouth, NS, he was posted to CFB Esquimalt where he spent six years with
the Pacific Naval Construction Troop. During that time, he deployed to Afghanistan (2006 & 2008), completed his QL5, and was promoted to Cpl.
In August 2009, followed a posting to 8 Wing Trenton, where he spent two years with 81 CEF, with the PH section. During that time, he completed his QL6A ( Top Student), represented the RCAF at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in Halifax, NS, and was on the winning team of the 2011 Men’s Ice Hockey Nationals.In May 2011, Frank was posted to CFB Petawawa, where he spent four years with 2 CER, as the PH 2IC and PH Sup. During that time, he deployed with the DART to the Philippines (2013), promoted to MCpl, and then to Sgt.
In December 2015, Frank was posted to RP Ops HQ in Ottawa, ON, where he spent three years with RP Ops North, as the Alert Coordinator. During that time, he travelled numerous times to CFS Alert, Fort Eureka, and Rankin Inlet, ensuring quality control on work being completed by contractors. He deployed to Ukraine and Latvia (2017) as the PH Sup.In July 2018, Frank was posted to CFB Esquimalt, where he spent four years with RP Ops Pacific region, as a Contract Coordinator and the Ops WO. During that time, he deployed to Latvia (2019), as the PH Sup and filled in when needed as the A/ Tp WO. He completed his RPM(B), QL6B CE Supt course, and was promoted to WO.
In August 2022, Frank was posted to CFB Gagetown, back home where his military career all began. After spending two years with the Transition Center (TC) at CFB Gagetown, he elected his IPR to be attached posted to the TC in St. John’s, NL.
WO Frank McCafferty will enjoy his retirement with his beautiful family in Bay Roberts, NL. He will never forget all the great people he met on his journey. It has been a blast and if anyone wants to send a farewell, pls email knarf_mc@hotmail.com
