After more than 27 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, WO R.D. Cameron, CD, (00339) retired on 25 April 2025. Anecdotes and well wishes may be sent to Capt A.D. Charter: andrew.charter@forces.gc.ca
WO Cameron, born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada, began his career in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1997. Joining the military at the age of 18, he initially enlisted with the Nova Scotia Highlanders in Halifax and later transferred to the Regular Force (Reg F) in 2001 as a combat engineer. Upon completing his QL3 at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering (CFSME), he was posted to 2 Combat Engineer Regiment (2 CER), where he would go on to make his mark in the Royal Canadian Engineers (RCE).
Over his 27 years of service, WO Cameron served in a wide range of operational and instructional roles at 2 CER, CTC HQ, Tactics School, and CFSME. He deployed on Op ATHENA in Afghanistan as a Section Member in 2003 and again as a Driver in 2005. WO Cameron also deployed as an EOD team 2IC to Kandahar, Afghanistan, in 2008 once again on Op ATHENA.
During his time at CFSME, WO Cameron took the initiative to promote safety and awareness in Blast Overpressure effects, implementing additional safety guidelines into TEB training at the school to improve training safety. WO Cameron also reached out to Dunkley Labs in Toronto Ontario, to do a presentation on Blast Overpressure for the school, furthering the knowledge within the corps. As the Assistant Explosives Technical Officer at CFSME, WO Cameron contributed to improving the knowledge and training of both staff and students throughout the corps.
In 2025, after a fulfilling career, WO Cameron retired from the Canadian Armed Forces, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and excellence.
