    We regret to announce the death of Sapper Louis Hachey (Ret'd) on 30 December 2014 at the Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing, ON at the age of 91 years.Louis was living in Moonbeam, ON.

    Louis Joseph Hachey was born in Hacheyville, NB and was a veteran of the Second World War, enlisting in the Royal Canadian Engineers when the war broke out in 1939. After training in Petawawa, he was sent overseas where his training continued up to D-Day. Louis was on the second wave for the landing at Courseulles-sur-Mer on D-Day, landing with elements of the 16th Field Company. He fought the battles of D-Day and Caen to later continue on to Belgium and Holland and was more often than not, supporting the North Shore Regiment throughout. He was discharged in September 1945.

    After the war. he hitchhiked from NB to Kapuskasing. ON and met a war-time friend who hired him to work at a local paper company. Louis later retired and lived in Moonbeam. ON. Louis was a member of  Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 for over 44 years.

    In November 2014 he was honoured for his contributions to the Battle for France by the award of the French Legion of Honour at a ceremony in the Canadian War Museum.

    Louis Hachey will be resting at the Guenette Funeral Home on Sunday, 4 January from 2-4 and 7- 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, 5 January at the Immaculée-Conception church at 10:30 a.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated. {khDec14dc}
