    • Maj Yvon Fleurant, CD

Maj Yvon Fleurant is retiring after 27 years + of dedicated and loyal service to the CF and Canadian Military Engineers.

Maj Yvon Fleurant joined the CF in 1983 under the Direct Entry Officer Plan with a Technologist Degree in Civil Engineering. Before completing his Military Engineering training at CFSME Chilliwack in 1986, he married his wife Anne-Marie Sabourin in August 1985. Their first posting was at CFB Petawawa (Yvon worked with BCE section). Yvon, Anne-Marie, and their daughter Claudia borne in 1988, moved to Chilliwack in 1989 (Yvon was then the EA to the BComd). In 1991, following their Chilliwack winterless posting, they moved to North Bay but with an additional family member, Françis who was borne in 1989 (Yvon was Reqt O with the BCE section). Then the Fleurant-Sabourin family moved to Ottawa in 1994 and fully adopted the NCR since then. Yvon progressed his career in managing to have two distinct four-year postings as an Infrastructure PM within ADM (IE), a four-year tour with CFFM, a three-year tour with VCDS Strategic Change, nine months as the VCDS L1 advisor on infrastructure matters and also completing a Bachelor of Business Administration with first student honours (June 2002).

During their previous postings prior to arrive in Ottawa (1994), Anne-Marie worked either as a replacement teacher or running a children daycare house. Since their arrival in the NCR she has worked full time as a Specialist Educator for the Commission scolaire des draveurs. Earlier this year, Claudia graduated from a two years program as a nurse assistant. This fall, Françis has begun his first year at the University of Ottawa to pursue a BSocSc degree in International Economics and Development.

In January 2011, Yvon is transferring from the CF to DND, he has accepted a Project Director position with CFHA and he is most enthusiastic about remaining within the Defence team. Regardless of this new way of life, Yvon and Anne-Marie are looking forward to keep enjoying their weekend escapes at the “shack’’ at l’Ange-Gardien by the Du Lièvre River with the clear intent to eventually replace it by a new country house as their pre-retirement nest.
