We regret to advise of the death of Sapper John Francis O’Keefe (Ret’d) in the Glace Bay Hospital, Glace Bay, NS on 15 June 2011 at the age of 87 years.

John was born in Glace Bay.  He started working for the Sydney & Louisbourg Railway Company in 1943, but left his job to serve his country during the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Engineers.  When the war ended, John returned to his old job, retiring in 1986 from the Sydney & Louisbourg and Devco Railway Company.  He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3, Glace Bay and also a 3^rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

A funeral mass will be held on 20 June at 11:00 AM in St. Anthony’s Church, 23 Dominion St, Glace Bay followed by interment in the parish cemetery. The Legion will provide a guard of honour for their departed comrade at the entrance to the church.  Donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Diabetic Association or Palliative Care, Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation. ^{{dcApr17gd} [zsd, zpp],}
