Cpl Craig joined the Canadian Armed Forces in March 2015 at the age of 29. He was granted PLAR status as a Construction Technician for his previous education and employment experience. Cpl Craig attended Basic Training in April 2015 in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and upon graduation, was posted to CFB Gagetown to await further training. He completed a PLAR Construction Technician DP1 course in November 2015 at CFSME and was posted to Real Properties Operations Unit Halifax to complete OJT.
From RPOU(A) Halifax, Cpl Craig was tasked to CFB Wainwright in the summer of 2016 to support the completion of a block wall project and to finalize his OJT. Upon returning to Halifax in August, Cpl Craig was registered for the Construction Technician DP2 journeyman course. He would return to RPOU(A) Halifax in November 2016 after graduation.
While at RPOU(A) Halifax, Cpl Craig volunteered for many years as a member of the BASF, as one of the Unit’s Fall Arrest Instructors, and as a Unit First-Aid Instructor, which ultimately earned him an RP Ops Group Commander’s coin in 2018. Concurrently, he organized and oversaw the completion of five OJT projects of junior Construction Technicians and several additional projects. His most notable projects were a shadow box presented to the ADM, Jody Thomas, made from pieces of the Stadacona gym running track; the Stalker 22 monument foundation and remembrance display case reviewed by CDS, General Eyre; and assembling a renovation team to create an exceptional office space for all future Halifax Base Chiefs after the Base Chief was moved from
his office.In 2018, Cpl Craig deployed to Fiji on OP PROJECTION as part of the advanced party for the Naval Security Team. As the sole Construction Tech on the operation, he helped lead a team of over 60 Reserve Force members to build temporary field accommodations and to improve the
permanent buildings on site.Throughout his career, Cpl Craig was supported by his loving wife and three children. He will release after seven years with the Canadian Armed Forces, taking valuable lessons to his new career as a Contracts Inspector with RPOU(A) Halifax.
