John MacPherson served the Canadian Military Engineers for 29 years as a Field Engineer before retiring in 1995 as Warrant Officer. Throughout his career he served in many units throughout the country; 1 Fd Sqn, Airborne Fd Sqn, 4 CER, 2 CER, CFSME, 44 Fd Sqn, 1 CER, and Base Ops, CFB Chilliwack.
Upon retiring, John completed a Micro-Computer Business Application Programme at Sprott-Shaw Business College in Chilliwack and, upon completion became an instructional assistant and then an instructor. He was also the Director of the Chilliwack campus for a period. John is currently the senior business instructor on the Abbotsford Campus and serves as the Team Leader for the Bookkeeping and Computerized Accounting courses.
John served 1995 – 2000 on the executive of ValleyNet – a free community network providing basic internet access to the communities of the Fraser Valley. Other activities include being the creator/webmaster in 1999 of the Echo 2 web site, a collection of CME-related news articles. He was the Financial Officer (2008 -2010) for Branch 280, Royal Canadian Legion in Vedder Crossing. John has also been a member of the Retired Sappers Reunion (Chilliwack) for more than 10 years, serving as Treasurer (2002 – 2006) and as Committee Chair (2006 - 2008).
When CMEA was formed John joined the executive as DVP Communications and Information Systems For a time he was also President of the Chilliwack Chapter CMEA. From November 2009 to November 2012, John was the National President of the CMEA. Since November 2012, John has served as the Registrar for the CMEA.
