Capt Serge Longpré will retire from the Canadian Armed Forces on 14 December 2021, after 42 years of loyal and dedicated service to the CAF and Canadian Military Engineers. At the member’s request a small private luncheon will take place on 16 December 2021 . Capt Longpré was born and raised in Le Gardeur in the suburbs of Montréal. He joined the Canadian Forces in February 1980 as a Firefighter at the age of 18 years old. His first posting was at CFB Bagotville where he met his spouse Christine. They are the proud parents of a daughter and a son.
Just like all Firefighters upon his QL5 qualification he got posted with the Navy on HMCS Algonquin in 1985. In 1987, he is reporting at CFB Portage La Prairie for his next posting. In January 1989, he is loaded on his leadership course and is promoted to the rank of MCpl in July 1990. He then takes his QL6A course in September 1991 and is posted at CFB St-Jean in 1992 as a Fire Inspector. He will remain in St-Jean until 1996 and will then be posted to CFB North Bay for one year.
In the summer of 1997, he returns to Bagotville. In 1999, he is promoted to Sgt and will be completing a UN Tour from August 1999 to March 2000 at the Golan Heights in Israel. In the summer of 2000, he returns a second time with the Navy but this time it was on the West Coast on HMCS Regina in Victoria until the summer of 2003. On completion of his tour, he is promoted to WO and is posted to Bagotville. In 2004, he takes the ILQ course and when promoted to MWO in 2006 he is posted to Ottawa where he will be serving with the Canadian Forces Fire Marshall’s office. In November the same year, he is taking his QL6B course. In 2007, he returns to Bagotville as the Deputy Fire Chief until his promotion to his present rank in 2011. He is then posted to Ottawa to become the Geo Tech & Firefighters’ Career Manager until the summer of 2014.
Posted to Bagotville for the 5th time as the OPS CWO until 2017 where he accepts his officer commissions and becomes the wing fire chief. In 2018 he transfers to air reserve as the wing RTF Commander until his well deserves retirement.
