Thank You to the Canadian Military Engineers Association! On 17 September 2025, the Mapping and Charting Establishment (MCE) hosted its annual Welcome Picnic at the Ottawa Military Family Resource Centre, which was helped made possible with the CMEA’s support. The weather was great, and the venue relaxed and welcoming for newly posted-in personnel and members of MCE.

The unit had the opportunity to take part in a variety of sports including volleyball, soccer, basketball, ultimate frisbee, and baseball. While some activities saw more engagement than others, the overall atmosphere was friendly and inclusive. Many attendees appreciated the chance to get in some friendly competition, connect with colleagues, and enjoy the outdoors.

The BBQs and snacks added to the casual vibe, and the event offered plenty of time for conversation and connection. Several members noted how valuable it was to spend time together outside of the usual work setting, and how the event helped foster a sense of community within the unit. Planning for next year is already taking place, and sees perhaps a few less sporting activities, but definitely some lawn games.

We’d like to extend our thanks to the CMEA for their support. Their contribution played a key role in making this gathering possible, and we look forward to building on this experience in future events.
