    We regret to advise of the sudden death of Master-Corporal Rodney Michael "Rod" Avery, CD (Ret’d) on 25 August 2021 at the age of 55 years.

    A native of Mount Pearl NL, Rod joined the Canadian Forces in 1984 as a Field Engineer. During his 15-year career in the Canadian Military Engineers he served in 56th Field Squadron in St John’s NL and 22 Field Squadron/4 Engineer Support Regiment in Gagetown NB. He deployed to Bosnia as part of the NATO Stabilisation Force (SFOR).

    Rod retired from the CF in 1999 and moved on to work at international de-mining. He worked for European Landmine Solutions in Northern Kurdistan in 2000 and then went to Maui, Hawaii in 2001 to conduct ordnance clearance of the former US Navy Bombing Range at Kaho’olawe, Maui, Hawaii. Rod and his wife Zoe, finally settled in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, where he worked as Director, Purchasing at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino. He was driving for Knight Transportation when he passed.

    Visitation will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl on Saturday, 11 September 2021 from noon to 7:00pm. Online condolences can be sent to the funeral home.
