Après plus que 25 ans de service loyal et dévoué aux Forces armées canadiennes et aux Génies militaires canadiens, le Lcol Jamie Hopkins, CD, prendra sa retraite le 28 mars 2022. LCol Hopkins completed his Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree at Ryerson University in 1994. After working for a civilian construction company, he joined the CAF as a Direct Entry Officer in January 1997 as an Engineer.
LCol Hopkins deployed domestically on Operations ASSISTANCE (1997 Winnipeg flood), RECUPERATION (1998 Montreal ice storm), and PODIUM (2010 Vancouver Olympics as J2 GeoInt), and internationally on Op PALLADIUM to Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2000 as the Engineer Squadron Ops O as a part of the 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Battle Group.
LCol Hopkins served at the Mapping and Charting Establishment as a Troop Commander, Unit Operations Officer, Officer Commanding Geomatics Support Squadron, Deputy Commanding Officer, and finally as the Commanding Officer.
LCol Hopkins postings outside of MCE include: 1 Combat Engineer Regiment, RMC as the Geomatics Lecturer, the National Defence Command Centre as a Senior Watch Officer, the Directorate of Geospatial Intelligence as the Production Manager and subsequently the Plans Officer, ADM(IE) as the Directorate of Portfolio Planning Co-ord (and Acting Director), CANSOFCOM as the Deputy Director of Special Operations, and presently as the Geospatial Intelligence Partnerships and Policy Lead in CFINTCOM.
LCol Hopkins has accepted a position at Algonquin College and will remain in Ottawa with his wife, Suzanne, and their children, Liam and Kimberly.
