We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Lawerence “Al” Allen CD (Ret’d) of Chilliwack BC on 9 December 2025. Al served with the Canadian Military Engineers as both a Combat Engineer and a Water Supply Oils and Lubricants Technician.
Al enlisted in the Canadian Forces in 1975 and, after completing his recruit training at Canadian Forces Base Cornwallis NS, proceeded to the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack BC to undertake his Combat Engineering training.. Upon graduating from his Basic Combat Engineering course, Al was posted across the road to 3 Field Squadron for a 4-year tour (1975-79). This was followed by 4 Field Squadron in Germany (1979-83} after which he returned to Canada and remustered to Water Supply Oils and Lubricants Technician.
Al's career as a WSPOL Tech included postings to Canadian Forces Station Baldy Hughes BC (1983-88), CFB Shearwater NS (1988-90), CFB Greenwood NS (1990-93) the Militia Training Centre in Meaford ON (1993-96) and as an instructor at Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering at Chilliwack BC (1996-97).
During his WSPOL career, Al deployed to CFS Alert NU (May-Oct 1992) and on Operation BOXTOP in October 1986. While in CFS Baldy Hughes he deployed to CFS Shearwater (Nov-Dec 1985) and while in CFB Greenwood he deployed to Gulfport Mississippi in February 1993.
Al retired from the Canadian Forces in 1997 and had a second career with School District #33 in Chilliwack.
