Sapper Inducted into NB Sports Hall of Fame

Jim Riley, born in Bayfield NB, played hockey and baseball in the early part of the 20th century. He was a member of the 1917 Stanley Cup champion Seattle Metropolitans, the first American team to win the trophy. He left hockey briefly in 1918 to enlist in the Canadian Army with the 6th Field Company, Canadian Engineers, leaving the Army in 1919 at the rank of sergeant. Jim also played minor league baseball in the Texas League with a few games in the majors with the St. Louis Browns and Washington Senators. He is the only person to win major titles in both hockey and baseball.
