    We regret to advise of the death of Donald “Don” Douglas Holloway, peacefully on 13 April 2021 at his home in Red Deer AB at the age of 88 years. Don was a Korean War veteran and served with the Canadian Military Engineers as a Combat Engineer for 31 years,

    Don was born in Port Blandford NL and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1951. After completing his basic and unit training in Petawawa ON and Chilliwack BC before deploying to Korea in 1953 as part of the 59th Independent Field Squadron

    After returning from Korea, Don was initially posted at Griesbach Barracks in Edmonton AB. He was later stationed in Ottawa ON, Newfoundland, Kingston ON, Kamloops BC and, finally, to Red Deer at Canadian Forces Base Penhold. By 1977, Don and his family had settled in Penhold. As he was nearing retirement. Don built a house and made his final move to Red Deer in 1981.

    Don retired from the Canadian Forces in 1982.  He always proudly represented the Korea veterans at Remembrance Services.  One of Don’s proudest moments was visiting Korea in 2013 with his son Doug as part of the official Commonwealth Forces celebration of the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice.  Don was recently honoured as Red Deer’s 2020 Honorary Senior Citizen of the Year for his contributions to his community, province and country.
