We regret to advise of the death of Warrant Officer George Edward Clarke, CD (Ret’d) of Chilliwack, BC on 26 July 2018 at age 81.
Born in Oshawa, ON George grew-up in Orillia, ON. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1954 at the age of seventeen and, during a five-year hitch served aboard the destroyer escort HMCS Nootka and the HMCS aircraft carriers Magnificent and Bonaventure.
After his release from the Navy and a brief season as a milkman, George then returned to military service - this time with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He served at various military bases including: Winnipeg, MB; Metz, France; Portage la Prairie, MB; Armstrong, ON; Trenton, ON; and Chilliwack, BC. He retired from the Canadian Forces in 1979 at the rank of Warrant Officer.. George then held a civilian position at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering as a Vocational Trade Instructor with Construction Engineering Training Squadron and, later, as a Mechanical Design Estimator until his final retirement in 1993. In total, George served Canada for 37 years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion since 1959.
A Celebration of Life was held 11 days prior to George's passing when he was joined by 25 family members and a few special friends for a cruise on Harrison Lake followed by a dinner. By George’s request, no visitation, viewing, or services will be held and his cremated remains will be handled as he requested. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC; Alzheimer Society of BC; or the Canadian Cancer Society.
