Master Warrant Officer Charles Bryant, CD will retire on 16 June 2017 after more than 35 years of dedicated service to Canada, the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Engineers.

MWO Bryant enrolled in the Army as an infantryman in January 1982 and upon completion of Battle School in Wainwright, AB, was posted to 3 PPCLI in Esquimalt, BC. His early regimental employment included service in a Rifle Company and the Mortar Platoon from 1982 to 1985. From 1985 to 1989, he served with the Canadian Airborne Regiment in Petawawa, ON. During this time, he was employed in 2 Commando and Airborne HQ & Sigs. After four years with the Airborne Regiment, he was posted back to 3 PPCLI. In 1990, he re-mustered to pilot. He was posted during this period to CFOCS in Chilliwack, BC for the basic officer training. Following that 3-month course, he attended an 8-month second language program in Saint-Jean, QC. He was then posted to Edmonton for a 6-month OJT term, and finally, he was sent to Portage la Prairie, MB for primary flight school. Although he completed the solo portion of the training, he was unable to complete the course successfully. He returned to the infantry and was posted to 3 PPCLI for the third time.

In 1992 – 1993, MWO Bryant served in Recce Platoon during Op HARMONY in Croatia. In 1994, when 3 PPCLI re-organised into a 10/90 battalion, he was posted to Anti-Armour Platoon in 1 PPCLI.

He re-mustered to his current occupation as a geomatics technician in 1998 and was posted to Ottawa. MWO Bryant deployed on Op PALLADIUM as a Master Corporal in 2001 and on Op ATHENA as a Sergeant in 2004. Following his promotion to Warrant Officer, he attended the University of New Brunswick. There he was employed as Deployable Geomatics Support Systems - Life Cycle Material Manager, i/c Field Systems Support and as a course WO for the CFSMM QL5A program. Following his promotion to Master Warrant Officer, he was employed as Geospatial Information & Support Squadron Sergeant-Major and as the Team Leader for Geomatics Centre of Excellent at MCE.

MWO Bryant will retire in the Smiths Falls area where he hopes to enjoy a full retirement with his wife Gale.

A depart with dignity ceremony will be held in the Fallen Mappers at the Mapping and Charting Establishment, 615 Booth Street in Ottawa. This event will commence at 1030hrs on 16 Jun 17 and be followed by an informal gathering at the Heart and Crown Pub, 353 Preston Street, Ottawa.
