We regret to advise of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Edward Murray Hare, CD (Ret’d)  on 11 July 2016 in Vancouver BC after a long valiant struggle.

Born in 1936, Ed graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) Kingston in the Class of 1960. He had tried first to qualify as a pilot but changed career streams to Construction Engineering with the Royal Canadian Air Force. His first posting with the RCAF after commissioning was with 1 Construction Engineering Unit. Among his career highlights, Ed was Base Construction Engineer Officer at Canadian Forces Base Petawawa, ON (1969-72) after which he was posted to RMC and became Project Manager for the development of the new Engineering and Science complex (now the Sawyer Building). After this tour in Project Management, Ed then took over Project Management responsibility for the Ship Repair Unit (SRU) complex in Halifax NS. Completion of the SRU saw him appointed as Base Technical Services Officer at CFB Trenton, ON (1985-87).

Ed retired from the Canadian Forces in 1987 and had a second career as a business consultant for Department of National Defense until 2004. After his second retirement he moved from Kingston ON to Vancouver BC. There will be a Celebration of Life for Edward Hare on 24 July 2016 at Jericho Tennis Club at 1 pm.  CMEA members are welcome to attend.
