We regret to advise of the death of Sapper George Ronald "Ron" Davies on 22 March 2022, at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert SK.
Ron was born on in Mission City, B.C., and grew up primarily in Prince Albert National Park in the 1930s and early 1940s, where their father was the Chief Warden. They went to school in a one-room schoolhouse, where they biked seven miles, uphill, both ways on flat tires, as Ron liked to say. Ron was not a fan of school and preferred the company of the outdoors, so he left for Yellowknife when he was 16 years old where he would work as a miner and then a commercial fisherman.
Always looking for an adventure, Ron joined joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1950 and served in Korea in the 23rd Field Squadron from May 1952 until March 1953. After serving in the army, Ron moved back home to Saskatchewan, where he entered the warden service in 1955 with Parks Canada. His career in the warden service spanned over 35 years with Parks Canada, taking him to places such as Prince Albert National Park, Kootenay, Wood Buffalo, and Nahanni National Parks.
Ron was married in 1954 and he and his wife, Reta Tait, raised five children over 60 years of marriage. Ron worked at Prince Albert National Park until 1970, when they moved to Ron's grandparent's homestead in Alingly where Reta operated the Alingly Store and Post Office until 1983. They then spent a number of years at Fort Chipewyan, AB, Fort Simpson, NWT, and Fort McMurray, AB. They came home to Alingly in the late 90s. On retiring in 2013, they moved to Prince Albert in 2013.
The Funeral Service for Ron will be held at 2:00 PM, on Wednesday, 30 March 2022, at River Park Funeral Home, 301 River Street West, Prince Albert, SK, with Pastor Nora Vedress officiating. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
