After more than 22 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, WO C.M.W. Gillies, CD, retired on 9 July 2025. Anecdotes and well wishes may be sent to Sgt G.H. Selig: GERALD.SELIG@forces.gc.ca
First enrolled in the CAF in 2003 as an infanteer with the 1st Hussars in London On and released in 2006. In 2008, WO Craig Gillies graduated from Fanshawe Collage with a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technician. Later that year after some perseverance he got back into the forces with the 1st Hussars reserve unit. WO Craig Gillies later transferred to the reg force in 2010 as an Electrical Generation Tech (EGS Tech 00303).
After completing his QL 3 course he was posted to 17 Wing Winnipeg. During this time, WO Gillies deployed on Op LENTUS to help with the flooding in Manitoba, and Op IMPACT Roto 0 Kuwait. Posted to 1 Canadian Field Hospital, Petawawa in 2015. Deployed in 2016 on Op IMPACT Iraq, and 2018 on Op REASSURANCE in Latvia. In 2018 he was selected for CANSOFCOM where he was sent on multiple deployments. And had the privilege to pass his trade knowledge onto future EGS tech’s that were attached on temporary duty – assisting QL3’s in completing their apprenticeship package. WO Craig Gillies last posting was in 2023 to RPOU (Atlantic) in the Sydney and Glace Bay area where he managed contracts for the Sydney Armouries and remote military installations.
WO Craig Gillies CD retired in Sydney Forks Cape Breton, with his wife Sarah, son Aiden and daughter Ava, where he enjoys life on their homestead, continue to coach youth sports, and keep building on his hockey goalie training center.
