We regret to advise of the death of James Douglas Basil Hudson on 24 August 2012 at the Teck Pioneer Residence in Kirkland Lake ON at the age of 92 years.
Doug was born in Parry Sound ON and spent his youth on the family farm in the Wanipatae area. He was a Royal Canadian Engineer veteran of the Second World War. Doug enlisted in 1941 and, after basic training, served overseas until the end of the war. He returned to Canada with an English bride and settled first in the Sudbury area but later moved to Dobie ON where they raised a family. Doug worked for many years at the Upper Canada Mine as an underground miner. He was also active in the community, taking on the roles of Fire Chief and snowplow operator. When the mine closed, Doug was posted to the Macassa Gold Mine in Kirkland Lake and worked there until 1982. Doug was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and spent time visiting veterans in various hospitals in Northern Ontario.
A funeral service will be held at the Teck Pioneer Residence on Thursday 30 August at 10:30 AM followed by a luncheon. A Legion service will be held in the Chapel at the Teck Pioneer Residence on 30 August at 10:30 AM just prior to the funeral. Donations in Doug's memory may be made to the Teck Pioneer Residence.
