There are many bridge designs based on the original Bailey design, the most common being the Acrow Bridge. We are looking for Bailey bridges, only.
To differentiate between a Bailey bridge and an ACROW bridge, use the following tests:
- ACROW components are galvanized. Bailey components are painted if they are manufactured to the original specifications but modern components may be galvanized.
- Bailey transoms are located against the vertical members of the panels. ACROW transoms are located at the bottom of the diamond reinforcing. members.

The next photo shows the Hagensborg Bridge near Bella Coola on the BC Coast, an Acrow bridge. The transoms are placed at the bottom of the diamond, two per panel.
