    We regret to advise of the death of Honorary Colonel John Everard Terry (Ret’d) in Sydney NS on 23 April 2014 at age 89. John proudly served as Honorary Colonel of the 45th Field Engineer Squadron in Sydney. He was devoted to his country, his community, his church, and his work. He always spoke highly of colleagues from University College of Cape Breton, Sydney Tar Ponds Clean-Up Inc., Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission, Nova Scotia Eastern Institute of Technology, and Dominion Coal Company Limited.

    He enjoyed many lasting friendships through professional and charitable organizations including the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia, Mining Society of Nova Scotia, Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, Military Engineers Association of Canada, Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, Rotary, United Way, and Red Cross.

    After his retirement he spent his spare time reading at St. Theresa's parish and volunteering at Ashby Elementary School's breakfast program.

    Visitation is at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel (755 George Street, Sydney) on Monday, 28 April 2014 from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be at St. Theresa's Church at 10 a.m. on 29 April with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please take a friend out for lunch or coffee – John would really love that. If you would like to also make a donation in his memory, please consider the Palliative Care Unit or Cape Breton Cancer Centre of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
