Capt Mike Taylor will be retiring from the Canadian Forces 15 June 2012, after more than 37 years of dedicated and loyal service to Canada.
Capt Taylor’s 37 year long career with the Canadian Forces started in Edmonton AB, while still in High School. He was employed under the YTEP Program with the Naval Reserve on HMCS Nonsuch. Enrolled in the Engineer Branch Aug 76, Pte Taylor completed his basic training in Cornwallis NS and his QL 3 Structures Technician course at CFSME in Chilliwack BC. During his NCM years, Capt Taylor progressed through the ranks to MWO while posted to such exotic locations as CFS Dana SK, CFB Cold Lake AB, US Naval Facility Argentia NL, CFB Shilo MB, Combat Training Center Gagetown NB, 8 Wing Trenton ON, ASU Calgary AB and 15 Wing Moose Jaw SK. While in Moose Jaw, Capt Taylor was offered and accepted his CFR. He was promoted to his current rank in Oct 2002. Upon completion of his Phase 3 & 4 Construction Engineer Officer training he was posted to CFSME (by then relocated to Gagetown NB) and lastly, to 9 Wing Gander NL as the WCEO. In 2006, Capt Taylor component transferred to the P Res as the Deputy Officer Commanding 91 Construction Engineering Flight in Gander.
Over the course of his career, Capt Taylor has deployed to CFS Alert on 4 occasions, the “original” Manitoba Flood Relief, the Quebec Ice Storm, Golan Heights, Jamaica and twice to Afghanistan.
Capt Taylor has accepted employment closer to home and plans on spending more time with his family and becoming reacquainted with the local salmon rivers and trout ponds of the Avalon Peninsula.
