Major Lefrançois joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1986. He graduated with a degree in Fuel and Materials Engineering from the Royal Military College of Canada and received his commission in the Canadian Military Engineers in 1990.
His first posting to the 1 Combat Engineer Regiment in Chilliwack allowed him to serve in all squadrons, including the positions of field troop commander, deputy squadron commander, and training officer. In 1994, he was posted to Valcartier. There, he began his career with the Engineer Service as an officer with the Quebec detachment and later served as staff officer to the Deputy Base Commander. In 1996, he joined the 5 Combat Engineer Regiment, where he held the positions of deputy commander, squadron commander, and operations officer. He subsequently became the Operations and Plans Officer for the 5th Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group. Promoted to his current rank in 2001, he moved to Ottawa to work with the Director of Land Force Personnel. Two years later, he returned to Quebec City as Facility Manager at Valcartier before taking a two-year leave of absence to join his spouse in the United States. During his final year, he was part of the Army's Lessons Learned Centre in Kingston as a planning officer and deputy commanding officer.
He plans to return to his studies at Laval University in Quebec City to teach mathematics and science at the secondary level.
Major Lefrançois has deployed as a planning officer with 15 Support Squadron in Kuwait (UNIKOM) and as a troop commander in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
Major Lefrançois is married to Lieutenant-Colonel Carignan and they have four children: Zack, Amélie, Ian, and Camille. The family loves playing sports and traveling, especially camping.
