Change of RCE CWO
19 Aug 2019 marked the handover of the Corps of Royal Canadian Engineers Chief Warrant Officer from CWO JDS Gaudreau to CWO JRD Lapointe.
On behalf of all ranks of the RCE, I would like to thank CWO Gaudreau for his commitment, dedication, and service as the Corps CWO, and to offer our best wishes for his upcoming deployment to Iraq. I would also like to congratulate CWO Lapointe on his appointment; the RCE will be well served by you.

Retired Col. Chris Lythgo, CD was confirmed National Chair during the Commissionaires’ Annual General Meeting held today in Winnipeg. He replaces retired Vice-Admiral Duncan (Dusty) Miller, CMM MSC CD RCN whose three-year term had concluded.
Engineers Participate in Ottawa Military Triathlon
An annual military national competition between the various regions took place in Ottawa again this year. Military Nationals for triathlon was hosted by Triathlon Gatineau on 6 Jul 19. Sixteen members from each region came to the NCR to compete against their previous times as well as other friends and colleagues. This year was no different. Hot weather meant a non-wetsuit legal race. Both Sprint and Olympic distance races took place in 40 and under and master’s divisions for both Male and Females of the CAF.
VAC Italy Pilgrimage 2019
The Italian Campaign was often called “The Engineers War” because military success was so dependent on overcoming the numerous natural and artificial obstacles.
The Government of Canada is planning an overseas commemorative program to mark the 75th anniversary of the Italian Campaign. Around 26 November 2019, the approved delegates will travel to the Canadian departure city to join the delegation before departing for Italy.
“Izzy Doll Mama” Is Presented the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation
On 24 June 2019 Mrs Shirley O’Connell, the “Izzy Doll Mama” was presented the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation by Minister Lawrence MacAulay. This commendation is awarded annually to deserving recipients who have performed commendable service to the Veteran community or individuals who represent commendable role models for their fellow Veterans.
