We regret to advise of the death of Henricus Anthony “Henk” Duinhoven, MBE of Bemmel, The Netherlands on 9 June 2019 at age 86.  Henk Duinhoven was a steadfast friend of the Canadian Military Engineers who made it his life goal to perpetuate the remembrance of Operation MARKET-GARDEN and Operation BERLIN - the rescue of the trapped paratroops of the 1st British Airborne Division after Op MARKET GARDEN.

Born in Hillegom, The Netherlands in 1933, Henk Duinhoven was a young Dutch boy of 12 when World War II broke out so was old enough to remember many of the experiences of his youth under Nazi occupation. Like many of his countrymen and women, he remembered the role of the Canadian soldiers in the liberation of their nation. Henk was a teacher and his wish was to share his experiences and gratitude for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

Henk, along with his wife Marion, made it his goal to help others to remember Operations MARKET-GARDEN and Op BERLIN. He had a particular interest in the Kings Own Scottish Borders and the 1st Airborne Reconnaissance Squadron that both fought at Arnhem. He maintained an association with the associated veterans’ activities for many decades and often spoke at many key ceremonies. His support to those veterans who lived to return in later years extended to his personally hosting their staying at their residence. As a story teller, Henk transformed those with whom he spent time remembering the wartime history and the fallen war heroes.

For many years Henk participated in the key memorial events of the annual British Airborne Arnhem Commemoration and was speaker for five years at Ginkel Heath (the wartime drop zone   where jumps by NATO troops are conducted). When he was a teacher he was very much involved in laying flowers in the military cemetery with the local schoolchildren and later assisted and accompanied a small group of children to their place in the cemetery. In addition to giving tours to the veterans and visiting dignitaries, Henk gave guided tours for students from other European countries such as Britain, Wales, Scotland, and Italy to impart an awareness of the tremendous cost of war. He was a guide for British military students in and around Oosterbeek and for 40 years he was a guide in the Old Church in Oosterbeek - the last stand of the Airborne troops.  He was invited to Canada on four occasions to give lectures for schoolchildren. 

The Royal Canadian Engineers and the Royal Engineers are indebted to Henk for his initiating the idea for a memorial to the Sappers of Operation BERLIN. After a meeting of the Society of the Friends of the Airborne Museum in March 1988 where he gave a lecture on "Operation BERLIN" he had remarked that the important role played by the Engineers would justify a monument to commemorate their heroic actions. A committee was formed on the spot and they proceeded to realise this vision. The current memorial at Driel is the product of that vision and the hard work of a committee of his countrymen.

Although the committee ceased to exist shortly after the monument was completed in 1989, Henk was the Master of Ceremony in the services at the Engineer Monument in Driel, for 29 years. Henk and his friend Wout Speijers carried on cleaning and maintaining the monument and preparing the site for the annual ceremonies for all these years.

For his lifetime achievement the United Kingdom awarded Henk the Order of the British Empire and The Netherlands bestowed him Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau.

We regret to advise of the death of Captain Donald Gordon Webster, CD (Ret’d) on Tuesday, 4 June 2019 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre in Peterborough, ON in his 79^th year. 

Don was born in Peterborough and raised in Lakefield.  He attended the Lakefield Public and High Schools before he joined the Canadian Army in July 1956 at age 16 as a Sapper Apprentice. Don was a member of the 5^th Intake Sapper Apprentice Program and undertook training in both military and high school academics for two years at the Royal Canadian School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack, BC. Upon graduating as a Field Engineer, Don was posted to 1 Field Squadron in Petawawa, ON . He served with them until 1962 and served with the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) in Egypt during this tour.

Don was transferred to the Army Survey Establishment (now Mapping and Charting Establishment) in Ottawa in 1962 to start a new phase of his career as a Mapper. From 1962 to 1974 he served with ASE in the ranks of Sapper to Sergeant.  He attended the Advanced Photogrammetry Course at the University of New Brunswick (1969 -70). He then accepted a University Training Plan Men opportunity and graduated from Carleton University with a B.Sc in Math in 1974. Commissioned as Lieutenant, he remained with MCE and was promoted Captain in 1975. Among his assignments at MCE was Scheduling Officer in the Program Management Office, Officer in Charge of Field Print and OIC Photolithography in the Reproduction Division. Don retired from the Canadian Forces in 1981 but remained with MCE as a Federal Public Servant as a survey engineer.  He retired from this work in 1998 and, two years later, moved back to the Peterborough area.  In retirement, Don spent much of his time documenting War Veterans from Lakefield and the surrounding area.  Don was a member of the Lakefield Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

A funeral service will be held at The Hendren Funeral Homes, Lakefield Chapel, 66 Queen Street, Lakefield on Monday, 10 June 2019 at 2:00 PM.  Visitation one hour prior to the service.  A reception will follow in the Heritage Room of the funeral home.  Interment at the Hillside Cemetery in Lakefield. We regret to advise of the death of Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Frederick Glen Millar, CD (Ret’d) on Monday, 3 June 2019 in Lacombe, AB at age 67. 
Fred joined the military at the age of 18 in 1970. His career took him to Air, Navy and Army bases all over the world including Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Shearwater NS, CFB Edmonton  AB, CFB Baden GE and CFB Borden. In addition to his firefighting duties, his career saw him teaching courses at the Canadian Forces Fire Academy in Borden, ON as well as being Manager of the Caribbean Airports Project. He especially loved his time on navy ships – including HMCS Saguenay and the five years he spent in Germany at CFB Baden. Fred rose through the ranks to become a Fire Chief at two fire halls and, after 29 years, Fred retired at the top enlisted rank of Chief Petty Officer 1st Class.

Fred’s second career started with a move to Lacombe, AB. He took a position where he was instrumental in bringing many municipal fire halls into the Lacombe Regional Fire Service and working with volunteers. He retired after 13 years in 2015.
During retirement Fred tried his hand at woodworking and, despite many stitches and scars, he made some beautiful things for friends and family. Genealogy interested him and he liked finding new cousins. He enjoyed getting together with his coffee buddies and was seen walking all over the town.

We regret to advise of the death of Peter Laverne Cantelon of Meeting Creek AB, peacefully on 29 May 2019 at the age of 85 years.

Peter was born in a three-room shack near Meeting Creek AB on what is now location of the Cantelon family farm. He left home to join the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1954 when he joined the Regular Officer Training Program and obtained his degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta. He retired from the Canadian Forces in 1961 and worked for a construction company for a few years before deciding to return to the University of Alberta to obtain a degree in Education.

Peter owned a construction company for a few years but the highlight of his career was teaching Engineering Design and Drafting Technology at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) for 25 years. He was an active member in the Baptist Church.

Peter’s funeral will be held at Evangelical Free Church, Meeting Creek AB at 11:00 am on 18 June 2019. We regret to advise of the death of Corporal Fred Weaver (Ret’d) on 26 May 2019 in Quesnel, BC at the age of 82 years.

Fred was born in Tilsonburg ON and served as a Sapper with the Royal Canadian Engineers from 1958 to 1967. During his career, he served with 3 Field Squadron in Chilliwack, BC, 4 Field Squadron in Germany and 2 Field Squadron in Camp Gagetown, NB. He was one of the RCE's first combat divers having qualified on the Royal Engineer B-2 Advanced Diver course in Kiel, GE in 1963. After the Army, Fred worked as a mechanic and for 28 years he was a pilot.

At Fred’s request, there will be no funeral but colleagues may conduct a Celebration of Life service during Summer 2019.

We regret to advise of the death of Sapper William Henry “Bill” Mitchell  (Ret'd) of Maple Ridge BC on 25 May 2019  at age 99 years.  

Bill was a Royal Canadian Engineer veteran of the Second World War. He served in Northwest Europe and came home to be a lifetime resident of Maple Ridge. He became a mechanic and eventually became an owner/operator of his own service station. Bill was a volunteer of the Maple Ridge Fire Department for over 25 years. He was a long-time member of both the Army, Navy and Air Force Club and was a member of the Maple Ridge Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Maple Ridge Legion, 12101 224 Street, Maple Ridge, on 8 June 2019 from 2 to 4:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy can be made at the funeral home. 

We regret to advise of the death of Captain Brian Michael Luckie, CD (Ret’d) in Mississauga, ON  on Friday, 24 May 2019 at the age of 70.

Born in Montreal, Brian served with 3^rd Field Engineer Regiment in Montreal, QC where he was Regimental Sergeant Major (1973-79).  Commissioned from the Ranks and promoted to Captain, he later moved to Ontario and settled his family in Erin Mills.  A dedicated businessman and volunteer, Brian was a pillar of reliability to his colleagues, friends and his family.

A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, 15 June 2019 at The Salvation Army Erin Mills, 2460 The Collegeway, Mississauga. Reception to follow. We regret to advise of the death of Lieutenant-Colonel Jacques Hamel, OMM, CD, PEng (Ret’d) on Friday 24 May 2019 at age 60 at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Montreal (CHUM) due to complications following a major surgery. Jacques served a full career with the Canadian Military Engineers and was a graduate of the Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College in Kingston, the UK Royal Military College of Science in Schrivenham, and the UK Army Command and Staff Course in Camberley. He was a Professional Engineer with l’Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.

Jacques joined the Canadian Forces in 1977 and graduated from the Royal Military College in Kingston in 1982 with an Honour Degree in Engineering Physics. He then joined 5^e Régiment du Génie de combat (5 RGC) in Valcartier, QC for his first posting where he served in a number of regimental assignments including Troop Commander, Adjutant, and Squadron Commander. After a short tour with 10^e Genie in Quebec City he returned to 5RGC in 1987 as the Deputy Commanding Officer. During this period he served on a number of deployments In Canada, Norway, Germany and Cyprus.

Jacques then moved on to National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa, ON (1991-93) where he joined the J3 Engineer Staff as a Project Director for a wide range of Combat Engineering, Command and Control Automation and Geomatics Capital Projects as well as the J3 Engineer-Sustainment on the Joint Staff. In 1994 he was appointed G3 Plans in Land Forces HQ in St Hubert QC where he was responsible for international and contingency planning. During this period he participated in the planning and support for operations in Kuwait, Cambodia, Croatia, Bosnia, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia and Rwanda.

Jacques was appointed to the Directorate of Army Doctrine in 1993 as the section head responsible for Force Protection doctrine and was Acting Director of Army Doctrine during 1997 and 1998. Jacques next joined the Army Strategic Concept staff in 1999 as the Director of the Army Experimentation Centre. He was the Program Manager of the Canadian Land Force Command and Control Information System (2000 - 2003). Jacques was next appointed Project Manager Intelligence Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) Omnibus in 2003 where he was also responsible for the implementation of other Army force Protection and C4ISR Projects. Jacques retired from the Canadian Forces in 2010 and accepted a civilian Project Manager position with ISTAR. He had recently retired from this position.

Jacques’ performance throughout his career was recognized by a number of awards.  He was appointed Officer in the Order of Military Merit in 2006. In 2009 he received the Chief of Land Staff Commendation for his Engineering and project Management activities related to the delivery of Small UAV capability to the CF to support on-going operations. He also received a Deputy Minister/Chief of the Defence Staff Innovation award for work as a part of the Manley Projects Team where he was charged with the rapid acquisition and deployment to Afghanistan of high-performance small unmanned aerial vehicles.  Jacques also received the Canadian Chief Information Officer of the year award in 2004 from the Canadian Information Productivity Association (CIPA) for his work in knowledge management. In 2005 he received the CDS Commendation for his Engineering and Project Management work in support of operations in Afghanistan.

We regret to advise of the death of Firefighter Albert Douglas Petrini  on Tuesday, 21 May 2019 in Victoria, BC at age 84.

Albert worked at Stewart and Hudson Lumber in British Columbia before he began his career with the Department of National Defence as a Firefighter. After a successful career of 33 years, Albert retired from Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt Fire Rescue.

We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Walter Allen “Wally” Davis, CD (Ret'd) in Chilliwack, BC on 21 May 2019 at age 77.

Wally’s roots were in Nova Scotia where he went to school in Stewiacke and Dartmouth NS (1948 -1959).  He attended Halifax County Vocational School (1959 -1960) where he earned his Welding Certificate. Shortly after, Wally joined the Canadian Forces with the Royal Canadian Engineers. While he later transferred to the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Wally always regarded The Engineers as his Family.

Wally served in 4 Field Squadron in Germany (1963 -1966) as a Sapper but, upon his return to Canada he remustered to the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers where he served for the rest of his career. Wally served at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Gagetown January (1966 -1985) followed by CFB Chilliwack (1985 -1997) before retiring in Chilliwack in 1998.

Visitation will be on 28 May 2019 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Henderson's Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 45901 Victoria Ave, Chilliwack. A Memorial Service will be held on 11 June from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm with reception to follow (2-4:00 pm). Online condolences can be sent to the Funeral Home.

We regret to advise of the death of Raymond Avery Hilchie on Sunday, 19 May 2019 at his home in Oromocto, NB at age 77 years.

Ray was born in St. John’s, NL in 1942 but moved to Nova Scotia where he grew up in Pope’s Harbour until he joined the Canadian Armed Forces. Ray served a full career as a Field Engineer with the Canadian Military Engineers. He was a member of the Oromocto Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

A gathering in Raymond’s honour will take place at St. John’s Anglican Church Hall, 60 Broad Road, Oromocto on Saturday, 25 May from 1 to 5 pm.

We regret to advise of the death of Sapper Rosaire Lalancette (Ret'd) in Montreal, QC on 17 May 2019  at the age of 96. Rosaire was a Royal Canadian Engineer veteran of WW II. He enlisted in July 1941 and saw action in Northwest Europe. Rosaire returned to Canada after the war with a British bride and was demobilized in November 1945. After the war he became butcher for a few years then he became a dock worker in the Port of Montreal for more than 30 years.

Visitation will be held at Magnus Poirier Funeral Complex, 7388 Viau Blvd, Montréal, on Monday, 27 May 2019 from 9 to 12 p.m. thence to the Le Repos St-François d'Assise cemetery.

We regret to advise of the death of Chief Warrant Officer Lawrence Allister Manuel, CD (Ret’d) of Clearland NS, peacefully at home on 7 May 2019.

Born in 1941 in Queensland, Halifax County, NS, Larry left home to have a successful 30- year career with the Canadian Armed Forces - making countless and lasting friendships with each posting. He started his service with the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Air Defence Technician but then remustered to Plumber Gas Fitter and joined the Canadian Military Engineers.

Larry’s postings included Canadian Forces Base (CFB) St Jean QC , Canadian Forces Station (CFS)  Clinton ON,  CFB Esquimalt BC,  CFB North Bay ON, CFS Bermuda, CFB Downsview ON,  CFB Penhold AB, CFB Chilliwack BC, and Gagetown NB. In addition, he had deployments to the United Nations Emergency Force (tUNEF II) in Ismailia Egypt at the UN Headquarters in 1978 and he served in CFS Alert, NU.  Larry progressed through the trade and ranks to become a Chief Warrant Officer Construction Maintenance Technician before retiring in Camp Gagetown, NB. After retirement from the Canadian Forces Larry went to work as a property manager for the race tracks and casinos in Windsor ON.

As a member of the Mahone Bay Legion, many knew him lovingly as “The Bacon Man”. Larry was the most honest golfer on the face of the earth and would want us all to “Play It Where It Lies”.

We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant William Earl "Bill" St. John, CD (Ret’d), peacefully on the morning of 6 May 2019 in Heron Grove Care Home, Vernon, BC.

Bill was a veteran of the Second World War who had enlisted in the Army in 1942. He joined the post-war Permanent Force with the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1946 and was eventually posted to Camp Borden with the 25^th Canadian Infantry Brigade that had been formed for the Korean War. On a winter trial, he was sent to Kapuskasing, ON where he met his soon-to-be wife and married in the spring of 1953. Six months later he was sent to Korea with 59^th Independent Field Squadron as part of the peacekeeping mission. Upon his return to Canada in 1954 Bill continued his military career with postings at Camp Borden, ON. Gagetown, NB, Werl Germany for three years and then to CFB Chilliwack where he retired in 1970.

After retirement, Bill moved to Chilliwack and returned to the Base as a civil employee with Base Maintenance in the Sand Blasting/ Paint Shop. He finally retired in 1989 to enjoy time puttering in their large garden and volunteering with the Boy Scouts. After the passing of his wife Elsie in 2006, he volunteered at the Chilliwack Military Museum and enjoyed his time there up until his move to Vernon in 2012.

By request, there will be no funeral service but his ashes will be placed next to his wife at Little Mountain Cemetery in Chilliwack.

We regret to advise of the death of Arthur "Art" Jones of L'Orignal at the Hawkesbury General Hospital on 5 May 2019 at the age of 85 years. 

After his post-war service as a Royal Canadian Engineer, Art was a salesman with Hawkesbury Toyota. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Georges Vanier Branch in Hawkesbury ON.

We regret to advise of the death of Captain Reginald Berman "Reg" Ferguson, CD (Ret’d) on 4 May 2019 at the Ottawa General Hospital in Ottawa, ON.

Reg grew up in the Ottawa Valley. He enlisted in the Canadian Forces as a young man and worked his way through the ranks as a Firefighter and Military Engineering Officer. Reg served as Fire Chief at Canadian Forces Bases Edmonton, Trenton and North Bay. He was a caring and considerate manager who earned the respect and friendship of his senior officers and his crews. After a distinguished career in the military Reg was awarded the Queen’ Golden Jubilee Medal for significant contributions to his fellow citizens, his community and to Canada. He joined the Commissionaires after his retirement from the Canadian Forces and was recognized for that service by the award of the Canadian Exemplary Services medal.

Reg’s family will receive friends at McPhail & Perkins Funeral Home, 85 Munro Ave. E., Renfrew, ON on Friday, 10 May from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Hilltop Tabernacle in Griffith, ON on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. We regret to advise of the death of Lloyd Riedlinger of Drayton Valley AB on 29 April 2019 at age 78 years. Lloyd served a full career in the Canadian Forces as a Firefighter.

Lloyd was born in Edmonton, AB in 1940 and was raised on a farm at Tomahawk, AB.  During his career as a Firefighter he served across Canada and in Europe at locations such as Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Edmonton, in Germany, CFB Cold Lake AB, in Manitoba and Nova Scotia and in his last posting at CFB Comox, BC.

Interment of Lloyd’s urn will be at a later date at the Brightwood Cemetery in Alberta. Online condolences can be sent to the Funeral Home.

We regret to advise of the death of Sapper Norman Ernest Leis (Ret’d) on 28 April 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospice in London ON in his 80^th year.  Norman served his country as a member of the Royal Canadian Engineers. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Victory Branch in London.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home in Listowel on 3 May from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., where a private family funeral will be held on 4 May. Interment in the Fairview Cemetery in Listowel. We regret to advise of the death of Henry “Ted” Guest, peacefully, on Sunday, 28 April 2019. at the age of 90 in Lindsay, ON. Ted was a Royal Canadian Engineer veteran of the Korean War.

We regret to advise of the death of Warrant Officer Ray Zander, CD (Ret’d) of Saanichton, BC on 27 April 2019 at 74 years of age.

Ray was born in Wilkie, SK and served a full career with the Canadian Forces as a Firefighter. His career started in 1 (Fighter) Wing at RCAF Station Marville, France and then postings followed to Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton ON, CFB Baden Baden GE, CFB North Bay ON, CFB Lahr GE , CFB Cold Lake AB, CFB Goose Bay NL and, finally, to CFB Esquimalt BC. Upon retirement Ray lived in Saanichton, BC. He loved his career as a Firefighter and often told stories to his family of his fellow firefighters.

We regret to advise of the death of Warrant Officer E.L. "Len" Reeves, CD (Ret’d) on 21 April 2019 at Parkwood Hospital, Veterans Wing in London ON in his 89^th year. 

Len began his army career with the Royal Canadian Regiment and served with them in Korea. He re-enlisted with the Royal Canadian Engineers. and served a full career with the Canadian Military Engineers. In retirement, despite great adversity, Len's example and hard work was well used in various Lutheran Churches and in the Nilestown Masons and Shriners.

We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Thomas Hilton "Tony" Greggain (Ret’d) on Sunday, 21 April 2019 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital in Fort Erie ON at the age of 94. Tony was a Royal Canadian Engineer veteran of the Second World War.

Tony had married at the age of 19 and settled in Renfrew but their family of three later moved to Fort Erie in 1961. Tony worked for the town of Fort Erie and, later, for the Niagara Region. Tony was a long-time member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church and volunteered in many capacities including the Knights of Columbus. He was also active in the Frontier Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion for more than 40 years.

The family will receive friends on Friday, 26 April from 2-4:00 and 7-9:00 p.m. Vigil Prayers at 3:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church 310 Central Ave. Fort Erie on Saturday morning at 11:00 AM. We regret to advise of the death of  Master Warrant Officer Steven Rose, CD of Owen Sound, ON in Owen Sound on 21 April 2019 at the age of 50 years as a result of complications during a hospital procedure. Steve was a Combat Engineer serving with 4^th Canadian Division Training Centre in Meaford, ON.

Born in Jonquière, QC, Steve enrolled in the Canadian Forces in 1988 in the Royal Canadian Navy and served on HMCS Terra Nova until 1991. He then re-enrolled in 1996 as a Combat Engineer and served with 5^e Régiment du génie de combat (5 RGC) in Valcartier QC from 1997 to 2005. Steve was then posted to the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Gagetown, NB in 2005. His next posting was to the 4^th Canadian Division Training Centre (4 CDTC) in Meaford, ON in 2009 and then back to 5 RGC in 2012. Steve then returned to 4 CDTC in 2015 and was serving there at the time of his death.Steve deployed to operations in Kuwait and twice to Afghanistan during his career.

The family will welcome family and friends at the Saguenay Funeral Home, 2580 St-Dominique Street, Jonquière, QC on Friday, 3 May 2019 from 2 to 5:00 pm and 7 to 10:00 pm and Saturday, 4 May 2019 from noon.

We regret to advise of the death of Major Donald James Wilson, CD (Ret’d) on 21 April 2019 at Forest Valley Terrace in Orleans, ON at the age of 80.

Don made the military his life and proudly served his country for 35 years in the Canadian Army as a Canadian Military Engineer. After receiving his Engineering degree from the University of Manitoba Don’s career took him across Canada and on United Nations peacekeeping assignments. Within Canada he had postings in Victoria BC, Chilliwack BC, Winnipeg MB, Trenton ON, Chatham ON and Ottawa ON, Outside Canada he had peacekeeping tours to the Gaza Strip and to Cyprus as UNFICYP Force Engineer, Don was Chief Instructor at the Banff National Cadet Camp for several years and Head of Military Support for the Canadian Expedition to Study the Alpha Ridge (Operation CESAR) in 1983. He retired in Ottawa in 1993.

Don was a strong supporter of both the Military Engineers Association of Canada (MEAC) and the Canadian Military Engineers Association (CMEA). At the local level, he served as the President of the MEAC National Capital Region Chapter 1993-94 and then volunteered as National MEAC Treasurer 1996 - 2001. After the formation of the CMEA he carried on these responsibilities as National CMEA Treasurer 2001 - 2009. As National Treasurer, Don was instrumental in transferring the financial books of the MEAC to a modern electronic financial application that greatly facilitated management, accounting and auditing of the Associations’ books.

Don enjoyed keeping fit and relished the great outdoors participating in mountain climbing, downhill and cross-country skiing, backpacking, and cycle touring, as well as coaching minor soccer and managing peewee hockey.

Friends and Family are invited to visit at Beechwood Cemetery and Funeral Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa from 12 - 2 p.m. on Friday, 3 May. Graveside service and interment in The National Military Cemetery at Beechwood will follow at 2 p.m. Join family and friends at Don's local, the Blackburn Arms, 2586 Innes Rd. starting at 3 p.m for a celebration of Don's life, story telling, and a toast.

We regret to advise of the death of Sapper Wilfred Tremaine “Wilf” Morley (Ret’d) of Bridgewater, NS on 17 May 2019 in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, NS at age 85.

Wilf was born in Sydney, NS and graduated from Middleton Rural High School. After completing high school  he joined the Royal Canadian Engineers and served in Korea. After completing this service Wilf attended the Provincial Normal College and Acadia University. His subsequent teaching career included positions at Maitland Bridge, Centre Consolidated School, Hebbville Junior and Senior High School and Parkview Education Centre.

A member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wilf served as a Sunday School Teacher, council member and chairman of the Church Council. He was a member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and Chairman of the Interchurch Food Bank. Wilf served on the board of Big Brothers/Big Sisters and was a team leader of the health program, “Your Way to Wellness.”

We regret to advise of the death of Major Tampion Arthur "Tam" London, CD (Ret'd) in his 83^rd year at the North Shore Hospice in North Vancouver, BC on 16  April 2019.

Tam was born in Port Alberni, BC.  He joined the Canadian Army in 1954 as a Reserve Entry cadet at Royal Roads Military College in Victoria, BC graduating from the Royal Military College in Kingston, ON in 1958. One week after graduating from RMC, he joined the 6^th Field Squadron, RCE in North Vancouver while completing his degree in Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia.  Graduating in May 1959, he returned to Kingston and started his first job as a lecturer in the Civil Engineering Department at RMC where he completed master's degree at Queen's University specializing in structural engineering. Tam was one of the original officers forming the 55^th Field Squadron in 1960. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1961 but the unit did not fare so well and was disbanded in 1966.

Tam relocated to Edmonton, AB in 1962 and worked for a consulting engineering firm while an active member of the 25^th Field Squadron before returning to the west coast a year later. In Vancouver, Tam worked for a number of large and successful engineering firms where he gained valuable experience before starting his own firm, Triad Engineering, in 1986.  

Tam rejoined the 6^th Field Squadron in 1963 and assumed command of the unit on New Year's Day 1965.  After completing  his Major Qualifying course in Dundurn, SK  he was promoted to Major in August 1965. He relinquished his command in June 1968.  

Following his time in the 6^th Field Squadron, Tam became a staff officer at the new Vancouver District HQ at the Jericho Beach Garrison in 1973. Accompanied the CO of the 6^th Field Squadron, Tam visited the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) in Wales that same year. They established a strong association that still exists. Tam retired from the Primary Reserve in 1974.

Outside his professional and military endeavours, Tam was active in his parish church choir and was a Warden of the parish in the mid-seventies. An interest in puppetry led to two terms as President of the Vancouver Guild of Puppetry and, after two terms as president, to the Board of Trustees of the Puppeteers of America from 1986 to 1990. Tam and his wife travelled extensively and attended puppetry events around the world. He was also a member of the Apples BC Computer Society and served as its president in 1996 and 1997.  He was an active member of the Vancouver Branch of the RMC Club. In retirement, his association with the 6^th Field Squadron kept him active and deeply involved in writing its history and developing the unit's museum.

A celebration of Life will be held on April 28^th at St Catherine's Anglican Church in North Vancouver. ^{{dcMay19gd} [ zsp]}

We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Roderick Gordon Conrod, CD (Ret’d) of West Jeddore, NS on 11 April 2019 at age 63.

Rod was born in Conrod Settlement, NS. He joined the Canadian Airborne Regiment in 1977 and served with the Regiment until he remustered to the Firefighter trade. Rod served the remainder of his military career with the Canadian Military Engineers. During his career he served overseas in Bosnia and Afghanistan. 

A memorial service will be held in the Gaetz Brook Legion Branch No. 161 (6644 Hwy #7, Gaetz Brook, NS) at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 26. No flowers by Rod’s request. We regret to advise of the death of Captain Joseph Jean-Paul "JP" Seguin, CD (Ret'd) peacefully on 4 August 2019 in Peterborough, ON at the age of 88.

JP was born near Sudbury, ON and joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1955. He served a full career with the Canadian Military Engineers and retired in 1980 with the rank of Captain.

We regret to advise of the death of Master Warrant Officer John “Jack” Hayes, CD (Ret’d) of Ottawa, ON on Wednesday, 3 April 2019 at the age of 78 following a brief stay in hospital. 

Jack was a Stationary Engineer (Mechanical Systems Technician) who served his country in the Royal Canadian Navy (1957-1962), Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Military Engineers (1963-1980). He served across Canada and in Germany. After taking his release from the Canadian Forces in 1980 Jack served as a Federal Government Public Servant with Natural Resources Canada (1980-1995).

A celebration of Jack's life will be held at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Wednesday, 17 April 2019. Public visitation is at 9:30 am with the service at 11:00 am and interment at 12:00 pm in the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces, followed by an on-site reception.

We regret to advise of the death of Lieutenant Colonel Nelson Wagner, CD (Ret’d), peacefully, on Wednesday, 3 April 2019 in Regina, SK at age 66. A proud Veteran, Nelson served Canada as a Canadian Military Engineer officer for 23 years.

Nelson joined the Canadian Military Engineers with the Regular Officer Training Plan and graduated with a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Western Ontario. After completing his Military Engineering Officer Classification training at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering (CFSME) he was posted to the Base Construction Engineering Office in Winnipeg, MB and then in Chilliwack, BC.  Nelson then went overseas to Germany with the Base Construction Engineering Office in Lahr where he was the Requirements Officer (1979-84). He then returned to Canada for a tour with CFSME (1984-86) before being promoted to Major and being sent to Queen’s University (1986-88) to obtain a Masters degree in Business Administration.  Nelson was then posted to National Defence Headquarters with the Directorate of Construction Engineering Management and Policy in the Chief of Construction and Properties(1988-91) after which he was a student at the Canadian Forces Command and Staff College in Toronto (1992-93). Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, he was posted to Goose Bay, NL as the Wing Construction Engineering Officer (1993-96). After this appointment, he had a short tour in NDHQ before taking his release from the Canadian Forces.

After retiring from the Canadian Forces in 1997, Nelson first worked with the Saskatoon School Board before joining the Education Department of the Saskatchewan Provincial Government. He then joined the University of Regina and served with them for 13 years. Nelson had just announced his retirement from his position as Associate Vice President, Facilities Management in February 2019.

We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Roy Jahelka, CD (Ret'd) of Vernon, BC, peacefully, at the Hearthstone Manor in Vernon on 30 March 2019.

Roy was born in Banff, AB in and worked at the mine in Canmore, AB in his early years. Roy served with the Canadian Military Engineers as a Heavy Equipment Operator.  During his career he was stationed with 4 Field Squadron in Germany, ​5^e Escadron du Génie de Canada in Valcartier QC, and both 3 Field Squadron and the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack, BC.  He enjoyed playing hockey during this time.

Roy retired from the Canadian Forces in 1977 and moved his family to Fort McMurray, AB to work for Syncrude as a heavy equipment trainer/supervisor/operator. They built their retirement home in the sunny Okanagan in Westshore Estates in Vernon. Roy spent his last two years in Hearthstone Manor in Vernon.

A service will be held on 4 May 2019 at 1:30 pm in the Schubert Centre 3505 – 30^th Avenue in Vernon, BC. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to your favourite charity in Roy’s name. Online condolences can be sent to the Funeral Home.

We regret to advise of the death of Master Corporal Norman Anderson, CD (Ret’d), of Parksville BC on 30 March 2019 at age 79.

Norm joined the Canadian Military Engineers in 1962 and was posted to 4 Field Squadron in Werl Germany upon completion of his basic Sapper training (1963-66). Upon completion of this tour he returned to Canada for a tour with 3 Field Squadron in Chilliwack, BC (1967-71) and returned to Germany for a second tour with 4 Field Squadron (1971-76). After this tour Norm returned Chilliwack where he worked in Base Ops as a Master Corporal until his retirement from the Canadian Forces.

We regret to advise of the death of Master Warrant Officer Frank James "Jim" Bowes, CD (Ret’d) of Summerland, BC, suddenly, on 27 March 2019 at the Penticton Regional Hospital at the age of 74 after a brief battle with cancer.

Jim joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Firefighter in November 1962 and served across Canada and overseas. His postings included Canadian Forces Station La Macaza QC, Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Cold Lake AB, CFB Greenwood NS, CFB Cornwallis NS, CFB Comox BC, CFB Lahr Germany, and many other areas. His career also included a United Nations tour in Damascus, Syria. Jim achieved the position of Deputy Fire Chief and the rank of Master Warrant Officer. Upon his retirement from the Military in November 1997 he settled in Summerland, BC.

Bill was born in Saint John. He served in the Canadian Army (Militia) starting his career in the 1^st (Brighton) Field Squadron and later transferred to 31 Service Battalion in Saint John. Bill was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.

We regret to advise of the death of Second Lieutenant Jeston V. “Buddy” Brennan (Ret'd) on 12 March 2019 at the Listowel (ON) Memorial Hospital in his 87^th year. Buddy was a Korean War veteran

Buddy was born in St. George ON and, unable to find regular work as a teenager, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Regiment in 1950 for service during the Korean War. He underwent parachute training in Churchill MB, mountain training in Jasper National Park AB, and combat/commando training in Japan before he deployed to Pusan. Buddy saw action in Korea at Hill 355, ‘The Hook’ and Hill 587. Quickly promoted to corporal, he was cited for repeated acts of bravery and was promoted to sergeant and then to second lieutenant by war’s end in 1953.

Buddy worked in a variety of military positions for the military upon returning to Canada after his service in Korea. He was particularly fond of being a jump instructor at the Jump School Shilo MB later in the ‘50s. He also trained cadets at Camp Ipperwash ON, joined the Militia with the Royal Canadian Engineers and later trained air cadets in Dundas and Listowel.

Buddy had been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion since 1955. He worked tirelessly to promote Canadian Korean War Veterans and travelled the country to speak about how Veterans have made a difference. He championed the creation of the Korean monument that was erected in the Listowel Cenotaph Park in 2004. Buddy belonged to the Korean Veterans Association in Kitchener and served as the Memorial Chairman, assisting other Canadian communities in placing their own Korean War monuments. In addition to receiving the Ambassador for Peace Medal by South Korea, Brennan was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his work with Korean War veterans. He also received the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation in 2012 for this work.

We regret to advise of the death of Corporal Victor Butler (Ret’d) of Sarnia, ON at age 78 on Saturday, 9 March 2019.

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1940, Vic served as a Combat Engineer with the Canadian Military Engineers. He was a Combat Diver and was part of the early years of the development of this Army specialty. While with 1 Field Squadron in Petawawa, ON he qualified on the Combat Diver Land Force course in Spring 1966 and was subsequently part of the Combat Diver Trials (Army Trial 1/66) that lead to the introduction of this capability into the Canadian Army. Vic was very active on a number of interesting taskings of the Combat Divers. Vic retired from the Canadian Forces in 1973 and started a second career in the automotive industry in southwestern Ontario.

Vic  initially worked in London, ON as manager of an Automotive Center for Uniroyal. He was transferred to Sarnia by Uniroyal and eventually changed over to Goodyear for a period before taking over a gas bar franchise for Sterling Gas. Upon his second retirement Vic kept busy by working with Lampton Seniors in Sania with 'seniors helping seniors'  until three years ago.

We regret to advise of the unexpected death of Corporal Hiliary “Mac” Edward MacDonald, CD (Ret'd) at his home in Ross Ferry NS on 5 March 2019 at age 58 years.

Born in New Waterford NS and raised in Ross Ferry NS, Hiliary was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces. He first served as a Combat Engineer with the former Canadian Airborne Regiment and then, later, as a Refinishing Technician where he discovered his passion for woodworking, refinishing and building. Hiliary served in Petawawa, Shilo and Winnipeg before his release in 1993 when he retired to his home town.

In his retirement, Hiliary found a knack for the chainsaw and working in the woods.  He loved to laugh and was always working on a project - be it refinishing a wagon, a piece of furniture, building a bridge to nowhere or helping a neighbour on the island.

Visitation will take place Sunday, 10 March 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with a service following at 3:00 p.m. - both at Grace Fellowship Church (3 Meadowbrook Dr, Sydney Mines, NS). We regret to advise of the death of Warrant Officer Kevin Patrick O`Keefe, CD (Ret’d), peacefully, at his home in Mt.Pearl, NL on 4 March 2019 at 72 years old. We regret to advise of the death of Paul Whitworth of Alice ON, peacefully at his home on  Sunday, 3 March 2019 in his 74^th year. 

Paul served a full career in the Canadian Forces starting as a Combat Engineer with the Canadian Military Engineers and mostly in our Field Squadrons in Petawawa ON,  Camp Gagetown NB and Germany, but retiired a Leather and Textile Worker/Refinisher Technician. After retirement from the Canadian Forces Paul became the owner of Indian River Canvas in Alice, ON. Paul was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 72, Pembroke.

Respecting Paul’s wishes, cremation has taken place. We regret to advise of the death of Joseph William Thompson on 1 March 2019 at Perley & Rideau Veteran's Health Centre in Ottawa, ON.

Joe was born in 1926 in Findlater, SK and joined the Canadian Army as a boy soldier in 1942. After  the war he enrolled in the Permanent Force and proudly served for 27 years in the Royal Canadian Engineers.

We regret to advise of the unexpected death of Warrant Officer Mark Thomas Boychuck, CD, on 25 February 2019 at 5^th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown, NB at the age of 41 years. 

A native of Montreal QC, Mark joined the Canadian Forces in 1999, completed his Combat Engineer training at Canadian Forces Base Petawawa, ON and was posted to 2 Combat Engineer Regiment (CER) late that year. During his time with 2 CER Mark deployed to Bosnia in 2001, Kabul - Afghanistan in 2003, and Kandahar- Afghanistan 2006 and 2010. Mark left 2 CER in 2011 on posting to Wainwright, AB. He was subsequently posted to 4 Engineer Support Regiment in Gagetown in 2016 and, later, to the Canadian Forces Transition Centre Gagetown in 2018.

While on deployments, Mark’s quick thinking and reaction were key in aiding and saving lives. He was awarded the Commander-in-Chief Commendation and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.

We regret to advise of the death of Master Corporal Jean-Marc "Bouboulle" Rodrigue CD (Ret'd) on 17 February 2019  of an illness at Maison Paul-Triquet (Veterans) of Quebec City, QC at the age of 79 years.

Jean-Marc enlisted in the Canadian Forces in Quebec City in 1957 as an infantryman with the Royal 22e Régiment and served with them until 1967. During these years he served at Canadian Forces Base Valcartier, participated in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Cyprus and then served in Germany for more than six years. During his tour in Germany, he was employed as an infantryman as well as with the anti-tank platoon. Jean-Mark transferred to the Canadian Military Engineers as a Sapper in 1967. He worked in 5 Combat Engineer Regiment and at the Valcartier base. From 1972 until 1982, he was the manager of the Valcartier base arena. Jean-Mark retired from the Canadian Forces in 1982 after 25 years of loyal service. After his release from the CF, he devoted his time to the administration of his apartment building as well as his private residence.

The family will receive condolences, in the presence of ashes, at the Deux Rives Funeral Cooperative, St-Charles Funeral Center, 1420 Wilfrid-Hamel Boulevard, Quebec G1N 3Y6 on Saturday, 2 March 2019, from noon to 3:00 pm. We regret to advise of the death of Arnold Reginald Nauss of Middle Musquodoboit NS,unexpectedly, at home on 5 February 2019 at age 85.

Born in Farmington, NS, Arnold was a Korean War veteran. He served in the Royal Canadian Engineers for many years and, later, with the Royal Canadian Army Pay Corps. During his career his postings included the Yukon NWT, Kingston NS and Halifax NS. Arnold was very active in his community and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Elmsdale Branch No.48.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 1:00 pm, Sunday, 10 February in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, NS  with Funeral Service at 3:00 pm. Donations in Arnold’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. We regret to advise of the death of Sapper Harold “Sam” Mahlon Heath (Ret'd) on 5 February 2019 in Tavistock ON, at the age of 92 years. 

Harold was born in Stratford ON. He served in the Royal Canadian Engineers during the Second World War. After the war, he worked as a Yard Foreman with the Canadian National Railway for 35 years. He was a member and Past President of the Senior Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 518, Tavistock.

Visitation was at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, Stratford on February 8 and 9th, 2019. A family burial took place at Avondale Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice Foundation through the funeral home. 
 

We regret to advise of the death of Leading Seaman Forrest Dale Brooks, CD (Ret’d), suddenly at home on 5 February 2019 at age 43. 

A native of the Eastern Townships, Forrest began his military career in the Reserves in Quebec with the Sherbrooke Hussars. He transferred to the Regular Force in 1993 with the Armoured Corps and then transferred to the Canadian Military Engineers as a Combat Engineer. Forrest served in both 1 and 2 Combat Engineer Regiments and deployed to the Former Yugoslavia. After serving ten years in the Engineers he was remustered into the Navy as a Boatswain (“Bos’n”) due to a back injury and served four more years before being released in 2006.

There will be a Celebration of Life in Chilliwack BC on 16 March 2019 at the former 1 CER/ASU building at 5535 Korea Road starting at 4:30 pm. 1.  A Celebration of Life is also being planned for the Eastern Townships in Johnville QC on 23 March 2019. We regret to advise of the death of Corporal William A. “Bill” Duncan (Ret’d), peacefully, in his 101^st year on 4 February 2019 at Victoria Hospice in Victoria, BC.

Born in Tofield, AB, Bill’s family moved to Lethbridge and Blairmore, AB before settling in Victoria, BC in 1937. Bill enlisted for WW II In 1940 and joined the 5^th British Columbia Coast Brigade, Royal Canadian Artillery. He served two years as a Gunner defending the Esquimalt naval base before going on to study Aircraft Engineering at the Brisbane Aviation School in Vancouver in 1942. Bill then enrolled in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in 1943. Later that year he was transferred to the Pioneer Battalion, Royal Canadian Engineers and he completed his service in August 1945 as a Corporal at the Little Mountain base in Vancouver, BC.

After five years of army service, Bill joined Griffiths & Jones Trucking as a heavy-duty mechanic and driver at age 27. He worked for them for some 32 years and retired in 1977. Bill loved automobiles, loved to travel, built his own motorhome, was a carpenter and model car enthusiast.

At Bill’s request there will be no funeral service. His wish was to be cremated and flowers are gratefully declined. Donations can be made to Victoria Hospice. Online condolences can be sent to the Legacy site.

We regret to advise of the death of Master Corporal William Anthony “Bill” Gordon (formerly Gobeille), CD (Ret’d) of Calgary, AB on 2 February 2019, at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary at the age of 87 years.

Born in Montreal, QC, Bill’s passion for adventure began at an early age. As a seaman with the Merchant Marine he travelled the world. Bill later joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a firefighter where he was nicknamed “Dinger.” His military career took him to Canadian Forces bases at Fort Nelson BC, Borden ON, Bagotville QC, Saint Jean QC, Portage la Prairie MB and Cold Lake AB.  After retiring from the Canadian Forces in 1974 as Master Corporal he moved to Fort McMurray, AB. 

Bill then went to work with Syncrude as a power engineer and from where he eventually retired in 1986. Retirement brought him to Calgary where he made his home for 32 years to be closer to the Canadian Rockies.

Bill was an outdoor enthusiast and kept in shape by downhill skiing at Sunshine Village in Banff. This passion for skiing translated to many hours of volunteering and working as a ski-guide. In warmer weather he enjoyed windsurfing, especially at Waterton Lake. You could also find him hiking and conquering his next mountain peak and leaving his name in many log books. When Bill gave up skiing and hiking he became an avid cyclist and logged more than 50,000 kms - his last ride being in May 2018 at 86 years young. His unquenched passion for reading Canadian history kept him occupied during his free time, along with woodworking.

We regret to advise of the death of Master Corporal  Daniel Corriveau, CD  (Ret'd) in St-Hyacinthe, QC on 21 January 2019 at the age of 61 years. Daniel served his country in the Canadian Forces  for 23 years (1976 - 1999) as a  Firefighter in the Canadian Military Engineers. His postings included Edmonton AB, Nova Scotia,  Borden  Trenton and Ottawa ON. In his second career Dan was the civilian Fire Chief at the Charlottetown airport for a number of years and did volunteer firefighting teaching at the Prince Edward Island Firefighters Association Fire School..

The family will receive condolences at the Maska Funeral Home at 5325 boul. Laurier West, St-Hyacinthe, on 9 February from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm. A tribute ceremony will be celebrated in the chapel of the residence at 4:00 pm. Daniel will be buried in Beechwood National Cemetery in Ottawa, ON.

We regret to advise of the death of Lieutenant Colonel T.W. Kopan, OMM, MOM, CD, AdeC on 20 January 2019 in Holmberg Home in Abbotsford BC at age 57 after a long battle with cancer. Terry served his country in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian Forces Reserves and the Royal Canadian Army Cadets.

Terry was born and educated in Yorkton, SK. His involvement with the Canadian Cadet Organization began in 1974 when he joined No. 114 Orkney Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. He participated in summer training at Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship Quadra and spent two months aboard HMCS Terra Nova - graduating from the Sea Cadet program as a Chief Petty Officer First Class. Terry enrolled in the Canadian Forces in 1980 as an officer with the Reserves and a member of the Cadet Instructors List. He served with Sea and Army Cadet Corps in Saskatchewan and British Columbia.

Prior to joining the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in 1981 Terry was employed as a full-time fire fighter with the City of Yorkton, SK. While posted with the RCMP in a number of communities in British Columbia he continued his service with local cadet corps. Terry commanded No. 2276 Rocky Mountain Rangers in Fort St. John prior to his transfer to Langley. He then became a Training Officer, Deputy Commanding Officer and Commanding Officer with No.1922 The Royal Westminster Regiment Abbotsford and No. 1725 Canadian Military Engineers Chilliwack Cadet Corps. During this time, he was twice selected for international exchanges as the Officer in Charge of the Canadian Contingent to the United Kingdom Land Forces Cadet Leadership Course held in England.

Upon promotion to Major in 1996 Terry was appointed the army Area Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC) Officer for the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. In addition to his duties as Area CIC Officer, Terry successively commanded No. 72 and No. 2812 Seaforth Highlanders of Canada in Vancouver and Surrey. He also served as Liaison Officer to the Army Cadet League of Canada (BC Branch) and as a member of the CIC Regional Advisory Council for Pacific Region.

Terry also served at Vernon Army Cadet Summer Training Centre as the Officer Commanding Foxtrot Company, Deputy Commanding Officer and as Commanding Officer for four years. On completion of his term as Commanding Officer he was appointed Region Advisor (Pacific), CIC National Branch Advisory Council and Chairman of the Pacific Region Advisory Council - positions he fulfilled until 2010. During this time he was also part of the planning and execution of the Branch’s Centennial celebrations nationally and within BC. This assignment was followed by his participation as a subject matter expert in the design and delivery for the Senior Officers’ Training Course and the Leadership and Command Program. In January 2013 he was appointed as the national Branch Advisor for the CIC.

Terry was commissioned in the RCMP as an Inspector in 2003 and was appointed Executive Officer to the Deputy Commissioner Pacific Region where he was responsible for the leadership of one third of the Force. Following commissioning, he completed the RCMP Officer Orientation and Development Course. In 2007, he was appointed Officer in Charge of “E” Division Crime Prevention & Program Support Services and, subsequently, for his last posting, was Officer in Charge of National Performance Programs at Pacific Region Training Centre in Chilliwack. Terry was the catalyst for influencing national policy changes within the RCMP and the Canadian Forces that resulted in RCMP members being permitted to serve concurrently as Canadian Forces Reserve Officers in the Cadet Instructors Cadre Branch.

Terry served as an Honorary Aide de Camp to the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. During his career he was highly decorated and was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration, the RCMP Long Service and Good Conduct Medal with silver clasp, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. In 2007 the Governor General invested him as a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces and as an Officer of the Order of Military Merit in 2009.  He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #280 Chilliwack.

A Funeral Service will be held at Abbotsford Pentecostal Church, 3145 Gladwin Road, Abbotsford, BC at 2:00 pm on Friday, 1 February 2019. Interment will be in Regina RCMP Cemetery on Tuesday, 5 February 2019 at 11:30 am.
