    After 30 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, WO Patrick Eglinton, CD will retire on 24 September 2019. For those who wish to say goodbye to WO Eglinton, you are welcome to join us for the Depart with Dignity (DWD) ceremony and a luncheon at the Aulde Dubliner, Main Floor, 62 William St, Ottawa, next Friday, 27 September, at 1130hrs.     1. WARRANT OFFICER EGLINTON WAS ENROLLED INTO THE CANADIAN FORCES IN SEPTEMBER 1989. AFTER BASIC TRAINING HE COMMENCED HIS TRADES TRAINING AS A FIELD ENGINEER AT THE CANADIAN FORCES SCHOOL OF MILITARY ENGINEERING (CFSME) IN CFB CHILLIWACK, BRITISH COLUMBIA. HE COMPLETED HIS TRAINING IN MAY OF 1990 AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY POSTED TO 2 COMBAT ENGINEER REGIMENT (2 CER).

    2, THERE HE WAS DEPLOYED SEVERAL TIMES, UNIKOM IN 1992, UNPROFOR IN 1994 AND NATO/SFOR 1995. IN BETWEEN THESE DEPLOYMENTS CORPORAL EGLINTON COMPLETED HIS FIELD ENGINEER QL5A AND HIS PRIMARY LEADERSHIP QUALIFICATION. AS A MASTER CORPORAL, HE DEPLOYED DOMESTICALLY TO THE ICE STORM (1998) AND THE WINNIPEG FLOODS (1997). HE WAS POSTED ON PROMOTION AS SERGEANT, TO CFSME, CFB GAGETOWN IN 1999. IT WAS THERE, IN FREDERICTON, NEW BRUNSWICK THAT HIS TWO CHILDREN, HALEY-DEANNA AND ZACHARY WERE BORN. AFTER COMPLETING HIS COMBAT ENGINEER QL6A’S, SERGEANT EGLINTON RETURNED TO 2 CER WHERE HE IMMEDIATELY COMMENCED WORKUP TRAINING AND DEPLOYED ONCE AGAIN WITH NATO/IFOR IN 2003.

    3. IN 2004, SERGEANT EGLINTON WAS SUCCESSFULLY CHOSEN TO REMUSTER INTO THE GEOMATICS TECHNICIAN TRADE AND COMMENCED HIS TWO-YEAR TRADES TRAINING AT THE CANADIAN FORCES SCHOOL OF MILITARY MAPPING IN OTTAWA, ONTARIO. ONCE COMPLETE IN 2006 AND HAVING SHOWN AN APTITUDE FOR SURVEYING AND REMOTE SENSING, HE WAS POSTED TO THE MAPPING AND CHARTING ESTABLISHMENT (MCE) SURVEY TROOP. HE CONDUCTED AERIAL CAMERA AND TERRESTRIAL SURVEYS FOR 2 YEARS BEFORE COMMENCING PRE-DEPLOYMENT TRAINING AS A MASTER CORPORAL AND DEPLOYED TO KANDAHAR AS AN AIRBORNE MISSION SPECIALIST WITH THE UNITED STATES NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY (NRL) ON RAMPANT LION II IN SUPPORT OF OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM (2008). DURING THIS DEPLOYMENT MASTER CORPORAL EGLINTON WAS AWARDED THE CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF COMMENDATION AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY PROMOTED TO SERGEANT AFTER HAVING COMPLETED HIS QL6A’S, UPON HIS RETURN TO CANADA.

    4. WITH THE EXPERIENCE GAINED DURING RAMPANT LION II, SERGEANT EGLINTON WAS TASKED WITH PLANNING AND CONDUCTING THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES FIRST AND ONLY CANADIAN AIRBORNE SURVEY MISSION IN 2009. THE MISSION WAS TO COLLECT AERIAL IMAGERY OF AFGHANISTAN IN SUPPORT TO OPERATION ATHENA AND OTHER ALLIED OPERATIONS. SERGEANT EGLINTON RETURNED TO AFGHANISTAN AGAIN IN 2011 AS THE REGIONAL COMMAND SOUTH GEOSPATIAL DATA MANAGER. DURING THAT TOUR HE RECEIVED ANOTHER COMMANDERS COMMENDATION AND THE UNITED STATES WARRANT OFFICERS COIN FOR DISPLAYING AN EXEMPLARY TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE OF GEOSPATIAL BASED INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY. IN 2012, AFTER COMPLETING HIS GEOMATIC QL6B, HE WAS PROMOTED TO THE RANK OF WARRANT OFFICER. AS THE SURVEY TROOP WARRANT AT MCE, HE WAS CHOSEN TO ATTEND THE DIPLOMA PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK (UNB). WARRANT OFFICER EGLINTON AGAIN RETURNED TO THE SURVEY TROOP AFTER SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE DIPLOMA PROGRAM. IN 2018, HE WAS POSTED TO THE CANADIAN FORCES INTELLIGENCE GROUP HEADQUARTERS WHERE HE FINISHED HIS MILITARY CAREER AS THE J7 TRAINING WARRANT.

    5. MARRIED TO TRICIA, A FINANCIAL SERVICES ASSISTANT SERGEANT WORKING AT THE JAG OFFICE AS THE ASSISTANT COMPTROLLER, WARRANT OFFICER EGLINTON AND HIS WIFE ENJOY SPENDING TIME TOGETHER, HUNTING, RELAXING IN THEIR POOL AND WATCHING MOVIES. HIS INTERESTS INCLUDE TEACHING SURVEY AND GIS IN THE ALGONQUIN COLLEGE CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST PROGRAM, SUPPORT TO YOUTH HUNTING THROUGH DELTA WATERFOWL AND WOODWORKING WHEN HE HAS TIME.

    6. WARRANT OFFICER EGLINTON IS CONTINUE TO COMPLETE HIS DEGREE IN GEODESY AND GEOMATICS ENGINEERING AT UNB WHILE WORKING WITH DND AS A CIVILIAN CONTRACTOR WITH ADM(IE) REAL PROPERTY OPERATIONS AND TEACHING IN THE ALGONQUIN COLLEGE CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT.
