WO (Mr Gnr) J.G.A. (Alain) Vachon retired from the Canadian Armed Forces and transitioned into a civilian position within DRDC-Suffield on 2 Aug 2018 following more than 30 year’s of service. There will be a Depart with Dignity function held at the Medicine Hat Legion (Robertson Memorial Branch #17; 702 2nd St SE Medicine Hat Alberta) on Friday, 15 Feb 2019 commencing at 1300 hrs. WO Vachon WO Alain Vachon was born in 1968 and grew up in Lachine, Quebec. He joined the CAF as a Field Engineer/Combat Engineer in 1988. Following recruit training he enjoyed a pleasant six month interlude learning the language of Shakespeare. After his QL3 training WO Vachon was posted to 1 CER in March of 1989. While with 1 CER WO Vachon deployed on six occasions; Cyprus 1990, Kuwait 1991, Croatia 1993-1994, Bosnia 1996-1997, Kosovo 1999, and Afghanistan 2006. His other postings included Base Operations CFB Chilliwack 1993-1994, RMC Kingston as staff 2002-2005, CFFCA Borden as a CBRN instructor 2009-2012, RMC Kingston as a student on the Army Technical Warrant Officer (ATWO) course 2012-2013, and DRDC Suffield from 2013. WO Vachon will retire from the military with 30+ years of service and transition to a civilian position with DRDC on 2 Aug 2018. He and his family will continue to reside in Medicine Hat.
