We regret to advise of the death of Sapper Spr Jordan Giles of Almonte, ON at age 24 on 21 March 2021. Gilles was serving with 2 Combat Engineer Regiment in Petawawa ON.

Born in Ottawa, Jordan grew up in Almonte and Carp and enlisted in the Canadian Forces in 2019. He was posted to 2 Combat Engineer Regiment in Petawawa ON in January 2020 after completing his Basic Combat Engineer training at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown NB. He became a section member in 23 Fd Sqn and rapidly integrated into the 2 CER Family. When the COVID19 pandemic began, Jordan transitioned his efforts from preparations for Ex MAPLE RESOLVE to the new virtual environment where he worked with his section to conduct professional development in creative new ways. The Fall and Winter of 2020/21 provided some small opportunities for section-level training where Jordan became known to his section and Section Commander as a good Sapper and a good Friend. He was most recently employed in the Squadron Quartermasters’ section.

A Celebration of Jordan’s Life will be held at a later date. Online condolences can be sent to the funeral home. Donations in memory of Jordan can be made to the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario.
