We regret to advise of the death of Sapper Herbert John ''Jack'' Hides (Ret'd) of Calgary at the South Health Campus on 3 February 2023 at the age of 92 with his loving wife of 66 years, Ruby, and family nearby.

Jack was a gifted hockey player who grew up in the minor and junior hockey leagues in Calgary, ultimately playing in the Chicago Blackhawks farm system. When his hockey career ended, he joined the Canadian Army and served three years in the Royal Canadian Engineers. After his military service, Jack began a long and successful career in the downstream oil and gas industry, with Royalite, Pacific 66 and Petro-Canada. He retired in 1986 spent thirty plus years wintering in Mesa AZ. and traveling.

As per Jack's wishes there will be no funeral. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200-325 Manning Rd.
