    A DwD function for Sgt Jean Maillet will be held in the CME Museum at CFSME on Friday, 22 September 2023 at 14:00 hours. Sgt Maillet’s certificates for 33 years of service with the CME will be presented to his wife and sons.  Afterwards, the Children’s Activity Area at the Museum will be dedicated in his memory.

    We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Jean Charles Joseph Maillet, CD on 9 April 2023 at the age of 63 years. Jean was serving at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering when he died.

    Born in Moncton NB, Jean had started a civilian career as an Engineer Technician before he joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1989 and has served his country for 34 years.  Jean started his training at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in St-Jean QC. After graduation, he attended language training at the Canadian Forces Language School in St-Jean and then proceeded to Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering (CFSME) for Combat Engineer training. On completion of this training, Jean was posted to 5e Régiment du Génie de Combat in Valcartier QC. While in 5e RGC, he soon saw duty during the Kanesatake Resistance near the town of Oka QC in 1990. During his tour with 5e RGC, he also deployed to the former Yugoslavia on Op CAVALIER in 1993, Op HARMONY in 1995 and NATO Op PALLADIUM in 1999/2000.

    Jean was next posted to the CFSME in 2000 where he served first as Instructor and then with Field Engineering Standards.  He then moved to the Combat Training Centre for a year before starting a six-year tour with 4 Engineer Support Regiment in 2008. Jean moved back to CFSME in 2014 where he was Second-in-Command of the Training Resource Center and the trainer for culture and heritage. During his time at the CME Museum, Jean made significant and lasting contributions to updating and improving culture and heritage education for students, developing youth programs and enhancing the gallery exhibits. He was well known for his dynamic, entertaining and informative tours of the CME Museum. 

    A visitation will take place at Oromocto Funeral Home on Thursday, 13 April 2023 from 2- 4:00 pm and 7- 9:00 pm. A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary’s Chapel, CFB Gagetown, on Friday, 14 April 2023 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice House Fredericton. Online condolences can be sent to the funeral home.
