    We regret to advise of the death of Robert “Bob” Shattuck of Kitscoty, AB in his sleep on 12 December 2009 at the age of 89 years.

    Bob was born in the Wildwood District of Alberta and grew up farming with his family.  In 1942, Bob joined the Canadian Army and went overseas with the 23rd Field Company, Royal Canadian Engineers.  In England, he was transferred to No. 1 Canadian Drilling Company and worked through Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany.   Bob met up with his brother, Wilfred, in Italy and it was the last time the brothers ever saw each other.  Wilfred was killed in action on April 29, 1945 fighting with the Perth Regiment in Holland.

    In July 1945, Bob returned home to Alberta. He had signed up to go to Japan but the war ended before he was deployed.  He was discharged in February 1946.
