    We regret to advise of the death of Master Corporal Carman “Doc” Jacob Dockendorff, CD (Ret’d) at the Oromocto Public Hospital on 9 February 2015 at the age of 87.

    Doc was born in York, PE and at the age of 22 joined the Royal Canadian Engineers and started his basic Sapper training at the Royal Canadian School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack. On completion of training, he was posted to Korea with the 59th Field Squadron and fought with the unit before moving to the 23rd Field Squadron. After his repatriation, he had postings to 4 Field Squadron in Werl, Germany and 2 Field Squadron in Gagetown, NB. He was involved in Northern Canada airfield building projects at Pond Inlet and Baffin Island. During his 28-year career, Doc served on several United Nation tours including the UN Emergency Force in the Suez Canal Zone, the UN’s first peacekeeping mission; the UN Emergency Force Middle East supervising the ceasefire between Israel and Egypt; the UN Disengagement Observation Force supervising the ceasefire between Israel and Syria. His twin brother, Alden also served in the RCE including serving together in the and the 59th Field Squadron in Korea.

    Doc was very active in all unit sports, was involved in four Nijmegen Marches as a serving sapper, an event he carried on after his retirement until his 70th birthday. He was honoured to be selected as a representative for the Korean War Veterans on the 55th anniversary of the Korean Armistice for the nine-day Ceremonies of Remembrance of the Fallen Soldiers at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea. In 1969 Doc attended the International Military Pilgrimage in Lourdes, France. Amongst his medals and decoration, he was a recipient of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal.

    Doc was a strong member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93 in Oromocto and involved in the annual poppy drives and talks to local schools on Remembrance Day.

    Visitations will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on 12 February. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93 will hold a tribute at 6 pm. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Oromocto Funeral Home on 13 February with burial at the Oromocto Pioneer Gardens Cemetery.
