On 16 Jul 2023, the Real Property Operations (West) (RPOU-W) gathered to bid farewell to Major Robert Machin during his Departure with Dignity after 29 years of dedicated service. Major Machin, who served as the Deputy Commanding Officer for the past five years, played a crucial role in enhancing the unit's operational readiness and effectiveness, leaving a lasting impact.

During his tenure at the RPOU-W, he played a pivotal role in overseeing critical operations and ensuring the efficiency of infrastructure and human resource management. His strategic vision and proactive approach have significantly enhanced the unit's capabilities. Beyond his professional achievements, Major Machin is esteemed for his leadership qualities and dedication to mentoring the next generation of officers. He has been instrumental in fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork within the unit, inspiring his colleagues to strive for continuous improvement and upholding the values of service to their country.

At the retirement party at Yang-Ming Buffet, colleagues and friends gathered to celebrate Major Machin's accomplishments and to express their gratitude for his service. Some even travelled from Cold Lake and Wainwright to attend. "Reflecting on my journey, I'm grateful for the privilege to serve alongside remarkable individuals. We've forged lasting bonds, which have become the memory I will cherish for the rest of my years." Major Robert Machin said in his heartfelt address to attendees.

On retirement, Mr. Machin will return as a term employee to help RPOU(W) navigate the infrastructure challenges of the Future Fighter. In addition to his new role, he is also looking forward to spending more time with his family: his wife Nicole and his children Gavin, and Layla. They will continue gardening, beekeeping, and volunteer with dog rescue on their acreage north of Edmonton.

We will see him during the annual RPOU-W farmer's market with some of the best honey, eggs, and produce money can buy.
