L/Cpl William Arthur Amos - Military Medal - 18th Field Company

Military Medal

Lance-Corporal Amos, 1 Platoon, 18th Field Company, Royal Canadian Engineers, landed with his platoon at H-Hour, 6 June on the beach west of Courseilles-sur-Mer, and commenced clearing beach obstacles to permit the landing of troops and equipment. The beach was under machine gun fire and Lance-Corporal Amos received a painful wound on the elbow, partially disabling him. In spite of his injury, Lance-Corporal Amos continued to operate his team until too weak to continue, when he was evacuated. This junior Non-Commissioned Officer displayed great devotion to duty of beach clearing and little regard for his own safety or injury and set a wonderful example to the troops working about.
