In recognition of Bell Let’s Talk Day, Real Property Operations Unit (West) (RPOU(W)) welcomed some very special guests to its HQ in Edmonton. The therapy dogs from St. John Ambulance, arranged through the PSP partnership program. The visit was coordinated by RPOU(W) Adj, Capt Rebecka Westling, as part of RPOU(W)’s ongoing commitment to mental health awareness and support.

Bell Let’s Talk Day is an annual national initiative promoting access to mental health resources. For many, the day serves as a reminder that small, compassionate actions can have a big impact. At RPOU(W), those actions came with cuddling with puppies.

Members of the unit took a moment to step away from their desks, unwind, and enjoy a calming visit with volunteers and their companions. The therapy dogs regularly visit schools, hospital, and Operational units to promote emotional well-being through the program. They often stopping by the shacks on Thursday to spend time with the members away from their family.

“I believe that it is important to raise awareness, especially on mental health awareness days like Bell Let’s Talk Day. A grassroots initiative such as therapy dogs brings people together where we can support each other.” Emphasized by Capt Westling during the visit. This offered more than just a cheerful moment with furry visitors. It created a space for connection among colleagues. We gathered, shared laughs, and checked in on one another.

RPOU(W) extends sincere thanks to Capt Westling, the St. John Ambulance and the volunteer team making this initiative possible. Their efforts continue to remind us that wellness is a collective responsibility, and that sometimes, the best support comes on four legs.
