Sapper Chester McGie was born in 1920 in Hopetown, QC to Barnie and Grace. He was working as a farmer when he enlisted on 29 July 1940 in New Carlisle QC. He was assigned to No. 6 Employment Platoon RCE.
In early March 1941, he embarked for England at Halifax. When he arrived in England he was held in the Engineer Holding Unit until he was transferred into the 2nd Field Company on 25 July 1941.
Sapper William Henry McCaslin was born in 1919 in Durham, ON to Mr. Joseph Henry and Ava Allen McCaslin. Prior to his enlistment on 13 March 1940 in London, ON, William had served in the Grey & Simcoe Foresters of the Non-Permanent Active Militia and was a Truck Driver by trade. On enlistment, McCaslin was assigned to the 1st Field Park Company in London.
Sapper Joseph John Maville was born in Chapeau, QC in 1918 to Thomas and Theresa Maville. He had four brothers: George, William, Earl and Maurice, as well as one sister, Theresa. Joseph was working as a miner when he enlisted but had also worked as a timberman.
Sapper Glyn Jones was born in in 1921 at Glamorgan, Bargold, South Wales, the son of David John Jones and Annie. The family immigrated to Canada and took up residence in Thedford, ON when he was quite young. Glyn had six brothers: Thomas, David, John, James, William and Oliver and two sisters: Mary Ann and Nancy. Glyn attended public school in Thedford but went to Sarnia ON when he was eleven to finish his education at Lochiel Street Public School and then Sarnia Collegiate. Prior to enlisting, he worked at a local gas service station as a mechanic for a short time.
Sapper Cyril Hodson was born in Manchester, England in 1915. He was the son of David and Hilda Hodson and had two brothers: Joseph and James. Before enlisting he had experience as a clerk and a driver.
Sapper Alfred Harry Hall was born in Watford, Hereford, England in 1905 to Harry and Lydia Hall, of Caesarea, Ontario. He had a sister Phyllis. Alfred had work experience as a farmhand and a pioneer. He served with the 3rd Engineer Battalion, US Army Corps of Engineers (1925-28). He was married to Hilda Elizabeth and had two children – Joan and Bruce. He had graduated from Brantford Collegiate Institute with Senior Matriculation.
Lance Corporal Thomas Richard Gage was born in Lindsay, ON in 1902. He was married to Mary Gage and they had two children, George and Albert. He had experience as a printer but was employed as a truck driver and mechanic before enlisting. He had also served in the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (1918-19).
Sapper Delbert Alvin Elliott was born in Sexsmith, AB to Alvin and Hazel Elliott of Edmonton in 1920. He was working as a blacksmith when he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers in Beaverlodge, AB on 29 May 1940. Delbert had prior work experience as a farmer and hunter.
Sapper Alexander Russell Davison was born in 1904 to John and Janet Davison of Guelph, ON. He was married to Clara May Davison and they had six children. Alexander was an Electrical and Plumbing Contractor who had prior service with The 30th Wellington Battalion of Rifles in Guelph. He enlisted on 19 April 1940 and joined 11th Field Company.
Sapper Frank Cowlishaw was born in Toronto in 1921 and was married to Josephine. He had served in 2nd Field Company in the Active Militia prior to its mobilization in September 1939. Frank transferred to the Active Service Force on 5 September 1939 - five days before Canada officially declared war on Germany.
