Spr Chester McGie - 2nd Fd Coy

Sapper Chester McGie was born in 1920 in Hopetown, QC to Barnie and Grace. He was working as a farmer when he enlisted on 29 July 1940 in New Carlisle QC. He was assigned to No. 6 Employment Platoon RCE.

In early March 1941, he embarked for England at Halifax. When he arrived in England he was held in the Engineer Holding Unit until he was transferred into the 2nd Field Company on 25 July 1941.

Spr Glyn Jones - 1st Fd Park Coy

Sapper Glyn Jones was born in in 1921 at Glamorgan, Bargold, South Wales, the son of David John Jones and Annie. The family immigrated to Canada and took up residence in Thedford, ON when he was quite young. Glyn had six brothers: Thomas, David, John, James, William and Oliver and two sisters: Mary Ann and Nancy. Glyn attended public school in Thedford but went to Sarnia ON when he was eleven to finish his education at Lochiel Street Public School and then Sarnia Collegiate. Prior to enlisting, he worked at a local gas service station as a mechanic for a short time.

L/Cpl Alfred Harry Hall - 7th Fd Coy

Sapper Alfred Harry Hall was born in Watford, Hereford, England in 1905 to Harry and Lydia Hall, of Caesarea, Ontario. He had a sister Phyllis. Alfred had work experience as a farmhand and a pioneer. He served with the 3rd Engineer Battalion, US Army Corps of Engineers (1925-28). He was married to Hilda Elizabeth and had two children – Joan and Bruce. He had graduated from Brantford Collegiate Institute with Senior Matriculation.
