Chief Warrant Officer Pierre Ste-Marie, CD

Chief Warrant Officer Pierre Ste-Marie was born in Montreal on 17 October 1956. He enrolled in the Canadian Forces on 18 June 1976 in Trois Rivières. His basic training course began at St Jean on 27 June and was followed by an English course at Borden. After completing the course, he was posted to 5 Field Engineer Squadron at Valcartier.

On 28 July 1977, he completed his qualification level 3 and was posted to 2 Combat Engineer Regiment at Petawawa with the Parachutists Troop. On 2 June 1980, he returned to 5 Combat Engineer Regiment and was promoted to the rank of Corporal on 27 June 1980. During his time at Valcartier, he completed his course to become Master Corporal and Sergeant while still a Corporal.

On 27 June 1982, he was promoted to the rank of Master Corporal and posted to the Engineering School at Chilliwack, British Columbia, as a demolition and mine warfare instructor. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in June 1984.

In July 1986, he left Canada to join 4 CER in Germany. He served as 2 Troop section commander and then as Reconnaissance Sergeant. He was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer on 1 June 1989, and after 3 years in Germany, he returned to 5 Combat Engineer Regiment where he served first as Troop Warrant Officer and then as Training Officer.

On 19 July 1991, he was posted to the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at Borden, as Explosive Ordnance Disposal Section Commander. On 1 December 1992, he was promoted to the rank of Master Warrant Officer and in July 1993, he returned to 5 Combat Engineer Regiment. During this third period with the Unit, he served as 51 Field Squadron Sergeant Major, 56 Squadron Sergeant Major in Yugoslavia and 58 Services Squadron Sergeant Major.

On 14 June 1996, he was posted to the National Defence Demining Action Centre in Ottawa. He was promoted to his current rank on 1 June 1997 and posted to Land Force Trial and Evaluation Unit at Gagetown, New Brunswick. Chief Warrant Officer Ste-Marie volunteered for the Master Gunner course and was posted to the School of Artillery at Gagetown for the 11 months of the course. He then returned to the Trial Unit and remained there up until his current posting.

On 20 June 1999 he was once again posted to 5 CER at Valcartier and on 5 July 1999 he became the Regiment RSM. On 4 June 01, he was posted to Gagetown as CTC CWO. In July of 2003 he was posted to DMIL C Ottawa as the Cbt engineer career manager. He became the Canadian Military Engineer Branch Chief Warrant Officer on 11 July 2005. He has been married to Helen Ste-Marie since December 1977 and is the father of three children: Stéphanie, Mélanie and Michael.
