After more than 34 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, Capt L.K. Fugère, CD, will retire on 23 September 2026.

Born in Quebec City, Quebec, on 1 February 1973, Captain Fugère joined the 10th Field Engineer Squadron in September 1992 and completed Basic Military Qualification later that year. He completed the QL3 Engineer Course in the summer of 1993 before beginning studies in Civil Engineering in Sherbrooke that fall.
In 1994, he transferred to Les Fusiliers de Sherbrooke, where he completed the QL3 Infantry Course and served for three years. In 1996, he returned to the 10th Field Engineer Squadron, where he served until 2003. During this period, he completed the QL5 Engineer Course (1996), the Junior Leader Course (1998), the QL6A Course (2002), and the QL6B Course (2003).
In spring 2003, Captain Fugère joined 5 Combat Engineer Regiment (5 CER) in preparation for deployment to Bosnia as part of Rotation 14 of Operation PALLADIUM. He deployed in March 2004 as an Engineer Section Commander attached to the 12e Régiment blindé du Canada in Zgon. Following three months as Section Commander, he was appointed Engineer Reconnaissance Sergeant for the remainder of the tour. Upon his return to Canada, he served on successive appointments as Operations NCO with the 10th Field Engineer Squadron and as Standards Warrant Officer at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering (CFSME) in Gagetown until late 2005.
From 2005 to 2009, he served with 4 Intelligence Company as a member of the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Company. During this time, he completed the CIMIC Course in 2005 and the Psychological Operations (PsyOps) Course in 2006. After participating in several pre-deployment training activities, he deployed to Afghanistan in the summer of 2007 as part of Rotation 4 of Operation ATHENA. During his deployment, he served as a CIMIC and PsyOps Operator, as well as a Projects Coordinator, supporting numerous operations until February 2008. From August to December 2009, he served as a CIMIC Instructor at the Peace Support Training Centre (PSTC) in Kingston, Ontario.
In December 2009, Captain Fugère transferred to the 1st Canadian Ranger Patrol Group (1 CRPG) in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Between 2009 and 2014, he served as Operations and Training Warrant Officer and Ranger Instructor. During this period, he participated in numerous patrols throughout Canada's North and supported major northern operations, including Operation NANOOK. He was responsible for planning and delivering a broad range of training
programs for both the Canadian Rangers and Junior Canadian Rangers, including basic, leadership, and advanced courses.
In May 2014, he joined the Influence Activities Task Force (IATF) in Kingston as a CIMIC Operator. Following his promotion to Master Warrant Officer in 2015, he served as Headquarters Sergeant Major and subsequently as Task Force Sergeant Major.
In April 2018, Captain Fugère transferred to 1 Engineer Support Unit (1 ESU) in Kingston to assume the position of Project Coordinator. In this role, he served as 2 i/c of the Plans and Training Cell and was responsible for coordinating and monitoring national and international projects with a wide range of stakeholders. In October 2018, he deployed to Senegal on Operation PRESENCE as Camp Sergeant Major of the Interim Operational Support Hub (IOSH) in Dakar in support of Task Force Mali.
Promoted to Chief Warrant Officer in June 2021, he was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of the Influence Activities Task Force, a position he held until January 2024.
In January 2024, Captain Fugère accepted the position of Training Officer with 1 Engineer Support Unit and was commissioned to the rank of Captain. He currently serves in this role, overseeing training and professional development activities in support of the unit's operational mandate.
