This soldier has served in France with, 6 Canadian Field Park Squadron, Royal Canadian Engineers. He has at all times carried out his duties with courage and skill. On the afternoon of 27 August 1944, the 4 Canadian Armoured Division was forcing a crossing of the Seine River at the village of Criquebouef-sur-Seine. A rafting operation was started in order to convey support tanks and guns to the north bank to assist the infantry holding the bridgehead. It was found necessary to ramp down the bank of the river on the enemy side and this important task was given to Sapper Hore, a bulldozer operator. The site was under heavy and accurate enemy artillery fire and during the first hour Sapper Hore's companion was killed. Although his bulldozer was not armoured and despite the enemy shellfire which had increased in intensity, this Sapper continued to work and with great determination and without regard for his personal safety, completed the job in a skilful manner. It is beyond doubt that Sapper Hore's great devotion to duty enabled this vital operation to be completed. His brilliant achievement will always be an example to the men of his squadron.
