On this date in 1944, troops of the 5th Canadian Armoured Division drove forward to force a crossing of the Melfa River, the last major obstacle on the Road to Rome. Three armoured regiments with 10th Field Squadron sappers mounted in Honey reconnaissance ("Honey") tanks led the charge.
