    We regret to advise of the death of Chief Warrant Officer Robert Smith, CD (Ret’d) on 15 December 2022 in Salmon Arm BC at age 75 years.

    Bob joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Refrigeration and Mechanical Systems Technician and later became a Construction Engineering Superintendent. He was the Canadian Forces expert on Aircraft Arresting Systems for years and passed on his knowledge and extensive experiences to many RCAF Refrigeration and Mechanical Systems Technicians at our Forward Operating Bases. Bob's early career included a posting to RCAF Station Foymont ON and subsequent postings included Air Command Headquarters A4 Engineers and Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake AB. Bob also served in Cyprus on United Nations peacekeeping duties. He was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal in 2002.

    Bob retired from the Canadian Forces in 2002 as the 4 Airfield Engineering Squadron Chief Warrant Officer in Cold Lake.  He then followed a second career with the Public Service for ten years at Cold Lake with 4 Wing Construction Engineers. He served as a Contract Inspector and then as the Planning Officer before he retired in 2012. While at Cold Lake, Bob had obtained his pilot’s license. After he retired, he moved to Salmon Arm BC and flew his private float plane for a number of years out of Salmon Arm.
