On the 15th of August 2008 Cpl Dale Avery will be retiring after 20 years of dedicated service to the Canadian Forces.
Cpl Avery joined the Canadian Forces in the summer of 1988 at Halifax, N.S. He attended recruit training at the recruit school Cornwallis, and then went on to complete his basic infantry QL3 course at the Battle school in CFB Wainwright, AB.
Cpl Avery was posted to 2nd Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, CFB Winnipeg, MB in 1989. He deployed a year later with his unit on tour to Nicosia, Cyprus for 7 months for which he was awarded the UNFICYP and CPSM medals.
Upon Cpl Avery’s return from deployment, he took a posting to the infantry school in CFB Gagetown, NB from 1992 to 1994. He was then posted back to 2 PPCLI, CFB Winnipeg, MB in the summer of 1994.
In 2003 Cpl Avery decided he needed a change of path for his career and took an occupational transfer to an engineer trade. In March 2003 he was posted to CFSME Gagetown and attended the QL3 Electrical Generating Systems Technician’s course.
After graduating his QL3 course in 2004 Cpl Avery was posted to 17 Wing CE at CFB Winnipeg, MB. Shortly after arriving in Winnipeg he was sent on a month long deployment to CFS Alert.
On his retirement Cpl Avery plans to stay for the time being in the local area. He also has plans to help his mother with seasonal lobster fishing business and is looking forward to having the extra time to spend with his wife and year old son.
