    We regret to advise that Corporal Christian Bobbitt was killed in action on 1 August 2009, in the Zhari district, west of Kandahar City, Afghanistan at the age of 23 years. 

    Christian was a Combat Engineer serving with 5e Regiment du génie de combat in Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Valcartier, QC.  At the time of his death, he was serving with the 2nd Battalion Royal 22e Regiment Battle Group.

    Christian was born in Sept-Iles, QC but spent the majority of his life in the village of La Romaine, QC.  He joined the Canadian Forces in 2006 and after completing his Combat Engineer training at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in CFB Gagetown, NB he was posted to 5e Regiment du génie de combat.  Christian was on his first operational deployment and was killed when his resupply convoy was struck by two improvised explosive devices (IED) in the Zhari district, west of Kandahar City.

    A repatriation ceremony was held in CFB Trenton on 4 August.  Visitation will take place 10 August from 7:00 to 10:00 P.M. at the Sylvio Marceau Funeral Home, 1460 Notre-Dame Street, Ancienne-Lorette, QC.  A military funeral service will take place at the Ste-Jeanne D'Arc Catholic Chapel on CFB Valcartier on 11 August at 11:00.
