    After more than 12 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, Capt R.J. Hums, (00181) will retire on 1 April 2025.     Capt Robert (Rob) J. Hums was born in 1989 in Sudbury, Ontario. He graduated from Laurentian University with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science in 2012. Upon his retirement from the CAF, he is embarking on a career as a Realtor in Petawawa, ON, with the goal of helping CAF members with their relocations.

    Capt Hums joined the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in 2012 as a Combat Engineer Officer. Upon completing training at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering (CFSME) in 2014, Rob was posted to 2 Combat Engineer Regiment (CER) in Petawawa. During this posting to 2 CER Rob served as the 4 Troop Commander, completed the Combat Diver and Combat Diver Supervisor courses and became the Regimental Dive Officer, was promoted to Captain in 2015, then served as Resource Troop Commander, 23 Field Squadron Operations Officer, and deployed on Op REASSURANCE in 2018 as the J3-7 at Task Force Latvia Headquarters. Upon his return Rob was posted to 33 CER as the Reserve Support Staff (RSS) Officer. In 2021 Rob was posted to CANSOFCOM. In 2023 Rob was posted back to 2 CER to serve as the regimental Operations Officer, helping to coordinate the response to the Chinook crash, and later OC of RHQ, where he received an acting promotion to Major.

    Rob is married to his wife, Yvonne and they are raising three children, Ava, Kai and Hazel, protected by their canine companions Macaroni (Mac) and Lola.
