Captain Andy Walsh retired from the Canadian Armed Forces on the 02 December 2019 after more than 33 years of loyal and dedicated service to Canada, the Canadian Armed Forces, and the Canadian Military Engineers. After three years of unforeseen postponements, a Departure with Dignity Function will finally be held on 09 December 2022 from 1200 to 1500 at Pizza Delight, Bunker Room, in Oromocto, NB. Captain Andy Walsh joined the Canadian Armed Forces on 26 August 1986 in Saint John, NB, as a Field Engineer. Upon completion of recruit training, he was posted to the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering (CFSME) in CFB Chilliwack for the QL3 course. At the conclusion of the course, Spr Walsh was posted to 22 Field Squadron, CFB Gagetown.
In November 1989, Spr Walsh remustered to Field Engineer Equipment Operator (FEE Op) and in July 1990, Spr Walsh and his family were posted to 4 CER, Lahr, Germany. While at 4 CER, he completed QL5 FEE Op course and was also deployed to Yugoslavia on OP HARMONY.
In 1993, with the base in Germany closing, Cpl Walsh was posted back to CFB Gagetown at the newly formed 4 ESR. While at 4 ESR, he completed the Combat Leaders course and FEE OP QL 6A before being posted to 1 CER, CFB Edmonton in 1996. At 1 CER, Sgt Walsh deployed to Bosnia twice, participated in domestic operations in Quebec (Ice Storm) and Manitoba (Winnipeg Floods) and completed the Soils Analysis course (Ft Leonardwood, Missouri), the QL 6B course, and the Senior Leaders course.
In 2001, WO Walsh was posted back to CFSME, CFB Gagetown, as a Heavy Equipment Instructor. While at CFSME, he was sent to St. Jean, Quebec, to augment the CFLRS as a Course Officer and participated in an instructor exchange with the American Engineer School in Fort Leonardwood.
In 2007, MWO Walsh was posted back to 4 ESR as a Field Squadron SSM and then as the Support Squadron SSM. There, he completed the Advanced Leaders course and deployed to Afghanistan for ten months. Following the tour, MWO Walsh was posted back to CFSME as the Tactics SSM and the Heavy Eqpt Troop Commander.
In 2012, MWO Walsh commissioned from the ranks to Captain and became the Field Engineer Standards Officer until he was posted to CTC HQ in 2015. In 2016, Capt Walsh took his final posting to Real Property Operations Atlantic Detachment Gagetown (RPOU(A) Det Gt) as the Production Officer from where he retired in December 2019.
Since his retirement, Andy and his wife, Georgina, have remained in the Gagetown area and he is currently employed as the Roads and Grounds Supervisor with RPOU(A) Det Gt.
