We regret to advise of the death of Warrant Officer Corey George Willcott, CD (Ret’d) at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton NB on 5 February at age 43. Corey was a Combat engineer who served in the Canadian Military Engineers for 22 years.
Born in St. Alban’s NL, Corey joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1996 and achieved the top candidate award upon completing his basic training. After completing his Combat Engineer training at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack BC, he was posted to 4 Engineer Support Regiment in CFB Gagetown NB. He was immediately deployed to Winnipeg for the Red River Flood relief. In 1999, he was sent on his first deployment to Bosnia followed by deployments to Eritria in 2001, Afghanistan in 2003, Senegal in 2005 and Afghanistan again in 2007 and 2012.
During his career, Corey completed many specialty courses including Basic Paratrooper, Combat Diver, Jump Master, Military Free Fall Parachutist and Pathfinder. He also completed many courses with other nations including the Swedish Advanced Winter Warfare course, Polish parachute course, British search course and the NATO Operations and Planning course. Corey also received honorary jump wings from Germany, United States, Mexico and Great Britain. Corey retired from the Canadian Forces after 22 years of service and settled in Fredericton NB.
Visitation for Corey will be Monday, 10 February from 4-6:00 pm at York Funeral home (302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton). A Celebration of Life will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Monday, 10 February 2020 at 6:30 PM. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Wounded Warriors or the charity of the donor’s choice.
