Spr Curtiss Gary Tew (Ret’d)
-
We regret to advise of the death of Sapper Curtiss Gary Tew (Ret’d) in Kelowna, BC on 11 October 2019. Gary was a former Sapper Apprentice with the 10th Intake.
Gary was born in Medicine Hat, AB in 1945. His tireless work attitude as a youth led him to join the Soldier Apprentice program with the Royal Canadian Engineers as a member of the 10th Intake. Gary graduated from his training at the Royal Canadian School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack, BC in 1963 and then served with 3 Field Squadron in Chilliwack and 4 Field Squadron in Werl, GE before deciding to seek his release from the Canadian Forces to pursue a new career. He shared a lifelong friendship with his Sapper Apprentice colleagues.
After leaving the army Gary obtained a Power Engineering Certificate and took a career path that brought him and family to Abu Dhabi. Returning to Canada in 1995 Gary and his wife Marilyn started a successful company in Calgary Ribbon Revival that now provides office equipment and services. They then moved to Port Alberni, BC and enjoyed retirement before they eventually settled in Kelowna.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the Hospice House Kelowna - Interior Health Central (2035 Ethel St, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 2Z6) would be greatly appreciated. An announcement will be made at a future date for a celebration of life in Gary’s honour in Spring/Summer 2020. Online condolences can be sent to the Funeral Home.
