Sgt Roy Jahelka, CD (Ret'd)

We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Roy Jahelka, CD (Ret'd) of Vernon, BC, peacefully, at the Hearthstone Manor in Vernon on 30 March 2019.
Roy was born in Banff, AB in and worked at the mine in Canmore, AB in his early years. Roy served with the Canadian Military Engineers as a Heavy Equipment Operator. During his career he was stationed with 4 Field Squadron in Germany, 5e Escadron du Génie de Canada in Valcartier QC, and both 3 Field Squadron and the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack, BC. He enjoyed playing hockey during this time.
Roy retired from the Canadian Forces in 1977 and moved his family to Fort McMurray, AB to work for Syncrude as a heavy equipment trainer/supervisor/operator. They built their retirement home in the sunny Okanagan in Westshore Estates in Vernon. Roy spent his last two years in Hearthstone Manor in Vernon.
A service will be held on 4 May 2019 at 1:30 pm in the Schubert Centre 3505 – 30th Avenue in Vernon, BC. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to your favourite charity in Roy’s name. Online condolences can be sent to the Funeral Home.
